The film and television fields are in the midst of a drastic reshapening as cities around the globe work to adapt to a new working environment, with new safety guidelines that now remove many of the previous liberties people on film and television sets used to have. Updates on Blood Rush and Traced notwithstanding, director Ranjeet S. Marwa’s independent documentary, Covid-19: The Impact On Asian Cinema, looks to further arouse a discussion on the Coronavirus and its deadly affect on the world and global industries therein, principally the film industry at large since the top of the year. Featured interview subjects include two of Marwa’s Blood Rush co-stars, Singaporean actor Sunny Pang and British fight choreographer Nick Khan, as well as Balinese actor Oka Antara (The Raid 2, Foxtrot Six). I haven’t seen it yet, though I suspect there will be discussions regarding all-too prevalent racist fallout on a global scale, in addition to the financial collapse of various markets and closures, as well as the overall outlook in an industry that’s long been aware of streaming companies who’ve gained a foothold on home entertainment since January. Here’s a fact worth facing: Covid-19 isn’t a hoax. Want another fact?… Were it not for this disease spreading throughout the world and killing thousands of people, filmmakers like Ranjeet S. Marwa would already be closer to the start of his own latest endeavor, Blood Rush. Already having to scale back on that prospect, he’s moved onto another with independent documentary, Covid-19: The Impact On Asian Cinema, and even throwing in a bloody new poster, which, to say the least, speaks some truth as to the leaders of the world like Agent Orange who’ve enabled this crisis so needlessly. Interview subjects include two of Marwa’s Blood Rush co-stars, Singaporean actor Sunny Pang and British fight choreographer Nick Khan, as well as Balinese actor Oka Antara (The Raid 2, Foxtrot Six).
