PACIFIC RIM Is Officially Getting A Netflix Original Anime Series

Pacific Rim is finally getting an animated series. That’s right. Netflix launched its first-ever content showcase this week, “See What’s Next: Asia” hosted by CEO Reed Hastings. The region-targeted announcement listed seventeen new and original projects, including an anime adaptation of the live-action creature thrillers helmed in the span of five years by Guillermo Del Toro and subsequently by Steven DeKnight. Returning to the epic battle of Kaiju and Jaegers, this original anime series will expand upon the story of the first two live action movies and follow two siblings – an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister – who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents. H Collective Expands Slate With iQIYI, Adds COUNTER SPY From Craig Kyle

Following the H Collective‘s acquisition of the xXx franchise, Variety has word that the film is now part of a six-film expansion deal with Chinese streaming service, iQIYI. A few titles have been made public in the report this week, namely action comedy Counter Spy which is said to be the first film coming from the deal going forward. Plot details are under wraps for the new project which former Marvel executive Craig Kyle is penning from an original draft by David Rothenberg and Lionel Enns. Kyle is best known for writing and producing a number of Marvel films and projects. He served on the creative committees for the inaugural MCU feature, Iron Man, and on Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk.
