Last week saw news of the long popular Lethal Weapon franchise central to the talk of a fifth film according to a new report at The Hollywood Reporter as of last week. The word now is that nothing is official although the films’ original stars – Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, and director Richard Donner are on board as things currently stand, along with Channing Gibson following through with a script. The first of the four-film buddy cop action movie franchise launched in 1987 from Warner Bros., telling of a reluctant and challenged, albeit beneficial partnership and bond between aging L.A. detective Roger Murtaugh (Glover) and an ex-Green Beret and newly transfered narcotics cop, Martin Riggs (Gibson), forged through the kind of life-or-death ride-or-die car chases, explosive action sequences that made Hollywood blockbusters a household name. Actor Scott Eastwood propels the new Western thriller alongside Danny Glover, which earned its praise at this year’s San Diego Film Festival before being acquired by Momentum Pictures and Orion Pictures last month. The first official market promo for director Paco Cabezas’s upcoming revenge crime thriller, Tokarev, has already gone viral in the past few months. With Mobile, Alabama as the backdrop, the new film is written by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller with actor Nicholas Cage starring as a father who is forced to return to his criminal roots to exact his revenge against the Russian mafia while in search of his missing daughter. Danny Trejo, best known for his blade-wielding badass lead role in Machete and the upcoming film, Machete Kills, made headlines back in 2012 having starred in the internet viral video-inspired film, Badass. On Thursday, ComingSoon.net reported that the sequel, Badasses, wrapped up filming and is currently in post-production, also starring Danny Glover and Andrew Divoff. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is handling distribution. Both movies, written and directed by Craig Moss, are inspired by a character based on an internet camera phone recording of a fight that occured on bus mid-transit in Oakland, California back in 2010. The “winner” of that fight, Thomas A. Bruso, who was 67 at the time, became an internet sensation known as “Epic Beard Man”.
