Personally I’d always wondered why there was never a sequel to actor and director Warren Beatty’s 1990 adaptation, Dick Tracy. In the years since its inception in the 1930’s as a comic strip with various radio and television shows and films thereafter, the franchise was a favorite leading up to Beatty’s own efforts which prospered at the box office and earned numerous awards. However, the film wasn’t a hit in the eyes of its studio who felt they lost more than they gained, legal proceedings ensued between Beatty and Tribune Media Service – the latter who initially owned the film and TV rights to Dick Tracy.
