Jon Bernthal is currently set to reprise his role as Marvel mainstay, The Punisher, opposite leading man Charlie Cox in “Daredevil: Born Again,” streaming exclusively on Disney+ from March 4. In the meantime, the actor is reportedly getting back into character for a Punisher special according to the trades on Tuesday. Bernthal follows in the footsteps of Dolph Lundgren (1989) and Thomas Jane (2004), providing an extensive rollout of the character across several shows, between Netflix and Disney+, including his own in 2017 for two seasons. He is co-writing the standalone special with Reinaldo Marcus Green, who will also direct for its 2026 release, according to THR’s Etan Vlessing. The actor will next appear on the big screen alongside Ben Affleck in The Accountant 2, which opens in April in theaters from Amazon MGM Studios. Read more at The Hollywood Reporter. It has been nearly six years since Marvel Television’s Netflix era of comic book superhero thrills, followed by Disney+’s acquisition of all present shows and subsequent phase-interwoven production thereafter. At long last, we now have Daredevil: Born Again, featuring Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returning in fine fashion following their respective cameos in “Hawkeye,” “She-Hulk,” and “Echo.” The official trailer is now here as well, which also includes appearances by returning actors Jon Bernthal and Wilson Bethel in the respective roles/alter-egos of Frank Castle/The Punisher, and Benjamin Pointdexter/Bullseye. Disney-plussers tangible to the platform can expect another addition to its slate fresh out of South Korea with 8-part drama, No Way Out: The Roulette. The official series trailer is out ahead of a July 31 launch with a cast led by Choi Jin-woong, Yoo Jae-myung, Kim Mu-yeol and Yun Jung-ah. After serving 13 years for committing a series of heinous crimes, Korea’s most hated man, murderer Kim Gukho (Yoo Jae-myung), is released on parole. Outraged by his release, one mysterious citizen offers a 20 billion won ($14 million) bounty to anyone who can track down and kill the notorious criminal. Entertainment news dives back into franchise territory with a closer look at the character actor Jared Leto will play in Tron: Ares. Production is under way from director Joachim Rønning and a cast that also lists Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan and Gillian Anderson. Steven Lisberger, Bonnie MacBird, and Jack Thorne penned the pic. Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Tron: Ares is the long-anticipated threequel to the franchise that took off in 1982 with Steven Lisberger’s Tron, and continued with Joseph Kosinski’s 2010 successor, Tron: Legacy. The new chapter will release in 2025 from Disney.
The next phase of “The Mandalorian” is in development for the big screen as the trades are reporting as of Tuesday. Series exec producer Jon Favreau is on board to direct, as well as produce alongside Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni. Film duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (The Endless, Synchronic) are adding to their Marvel creds following their work on Disney+ series “Moon Knight” well as season two of Loki. The two are now joining the current production of Daredevil: Born Again, to direct the remaining episodes of the series following recent reports of the studio’s change of creative direction and reconfiguration of its TV production model. The campaign has already been running quite high for writer/director Ayan Mukerji’s upcoming fantasy thriller, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva. The film has several posters and motion images touting its upcoming multilingual Indian premiere this September 9 since late last year, and word now via buzz over at CinemaCon notes that Disney will share a stake on the same date for its release in the U.S. and Canada. Following the announced removal of several Marvel/Disney shows from Netflix last month, Disney+ is affirming is committment to its line-up as of Tuesday, bringing “Daredevil”, “Jessica Jones”, “Luke Cage”, “Iron Fist”, “The Defenders” and “The Punisher” to its platform beginning March 16. The move also includes all seven seasons of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” which initially enjoyed a seven-year run on ABC following its Fall 2013 premiere. The news also brings word of a change in operative use where all U.S. subscribers will be then prompted to set parental controls, using enhanced content ratings and PIN protection for all included profiles. “Those that choose to keep their settings the same will continue to enjoy Disney+ as they always have within a TV-14 content rating environment, with the option to make changes at any time under Profile settings.” says the streamer. Undoubtedly one of the biggest factors of the hype behind actor Oscar Isaac’s move toward Marvel with upcoming series, Moon Knight, was a training video shown on social media at a gym somewhere in NYC during pre-production. It’s even more enticing now as we segue into a new chapter of the Marvel television and film universe with the unveiling of the teaser trailer and poster. Moon Knight is a new globetrotting action-adventure series featuring a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. The multiple identities who live inside him find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of modern and ancient Egypt.
