Kitamura’s Marine Action Thriller, DOORMAN, Casts Ruby Rose To Star

Do I still want a Versus 2? Yes. Am I deluded at this point? Probably. Still, director Kitamura Ryuhei is someone I’ve been long proud of since stumbling upon his films back in college in 2001, and it gives me great pleasure to see reported at Deadline that his latest, Doorman, has installed actress Ruby Rose. Rose will play Ali Gorski, a decorated Marine officer, homeward bound and looking for an opportunity to heal from battlefield trauma. Her newfound refuge as a doorman at The Carrington, a historic, labyrinth apartment in New York City, is short-lived with the arrival of deadly mercenaries bent on retrieving precious art hidden in the walls of the building. It was last November that award-winning director Kitamura Ryuhei was announced to helm home invasion action thriller, Doorman. All’s been quiet since then while it was finally made clear in the last few months regarding his activity with road sniper thriller, Downrange, which is lining up screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival as we speak. I was actually concerned about Doorman as much as film projects tend to come and go, although it now looks as if things are official with word from Variety on the casting of actress Katie Holmes (Batman Begins, Miss Meadows, Logan Lucky) and actor Jean Reno (The Adventurers, Antigang). Oh goodness Christ! I’m both excited and pained at the return of director Kitamura Ryuhei in the years since he became a fan of his work out of Napalm Films, landing notably with the cult acclaimed Versus starring Tak∴. He’s crossed over a bit with films like Midnight Meat Train and No One Lives and I have yet to see those, but his latest is a return to the action genre and one hailing from events over at the American Film Market this week. According to THR, the award-winning filmmaker is set to direct Doorman from a script by by Lior Chefetz and Joe Swanson, about a female soldier who returns from duty and befriends a family in New York only to defend them from a gang of thieves plotting to take their belongings.
