Best-selling “Whale”, “Modern Family” and “My Uncle, Bruce Lee” author Cheon Myeong-kwan’s feature directing debut, Hot Blooded, is getting a local director’s cut re-release on May 26. According to the Chosun Ilbo, the new cut will be extended by 22 minutes following its initial rollout back in March from Kidari Ent for PG-15 audiences. Cheon directed the film, having adapted the script from a 2016 novel by Han Moo-suk literature prize winner, Kim Un-su. The movie centers on a low-level gangster and acting hotel manager in the shabby port town of Kwan in Busan, whose aspirations to wealth and power accelerate with the sudden return of a murder suspect who fled the country twenty years earlier. The film stars Jung Woo, Kim Kap-soo, Chou Moo-sung, Ji Seung-hyun, Kim Hae-gon, Yoon Ji-hye and Lee Hong-nae. Finecut is representing international sales on the film as part of its slate, and has also […]
Aaron Fradkin’s new horror comedy, Val, is scaring up some buzz on Wednesday with a first look photo which you can view below. The film, starring John Kapelos (Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy”), Kyle Howard (Paramount Pictures’ Orange County), SAG Award nominee Sufe Bradshaw (HBO’s “Veep,” Netflix’s Murder Mystery), Erik Griffin (Netflix’s The Sleepover), Misha Reeves (Electric Love), and Zachary Mooren (CBS’ “Criminal Minds”), and will have a release on digital through Epic’s horror shingle, Dread, on October 5. Epic will sell the film internationally at this year’s Marche Du Film. In this fun horror, FIN is a criminal on the run, wanted for the murder of his boss and the accidental shooting of an officer. He breaks into the home of a high-class escort, only to discover that you get more than you bargain for with VAL, short for “Valefar” – a demon who offers to make all his problems disappear if […]
There are 11 films in the Friday the 13th franchise and Kane Hodder has only played Jason Vorhees five times. Yet his name is synonymous with both the movies and the character. To most horror fans, Kane Hodder is Jason Vorhees. But do you really know the man behind the mask? I heard Kane Hodder talk at the 2018 HorrorHound Weekend in Indianapolis and he mentioned a documentary, To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story, which is about his life and career. This past weekend I was finally able to watch it (what better way to celebrate a Friday the 13th?) and I cannot stop thinking about it. Told through a series of interviews, I got to learn about how Kane Hodder got into the industry, the accident he took years to talk about, and much more about him as a person and as an actor. I liked the format […]
It’s not everyday you come across a film with a name like Butt Boy. That day came last year as an official Fantastic Fest selection and eventually garnered its deserved praise from critics. The film hails from the creators of Tiny Cinema, starring Tyler Cornack who directs from a script written with Ryan Koch, and with Tyler Rice, Shelby Dash, Austin Lewis and Kristina Clifford also starring. Chip Gutchel (Cornack), a bored IT Engineer, has an awakening after a routine prostate exam. What starts as a harmless rectal kink, soon grows into a dangerous addiction as he becomes responsible for a missing child. Chip eventually buries his desires in Alcoholics Anonymous and tries to move on with his life. Years later, he becomes the sponsor of Russell Fox (Tyler Rice), a newly sober detective. After Chip relapses, Russell is brought in to investigate another missing child at Chip’s office. Russell […]
About a week ago I was given the opportunity to see The Wave before it’s limited theatrical and video on demand release (January 17th, mark your calendars). I enjoyed the film so much that I just had to request an interview with the writer, Carl W. Lucas. He was kind enough to take the time to answer my emailed questions. If you’re curious about the writer of the sci-fi comedy, read on to learn more about him: I just watched The Wave and thoroughly enjoyed it. I know this is probably too common of a question, but where did you get the idea from for this film? So glad you enjoyed it! The inspiration came from multiple sources. I was incredibly inspired by the surreal and trips visuals that Gille Klabin was making for his low budget music videos and I really wanted to write a script that showcased those […]
Have you ever watched a movie that when it ended, you wanted to watch it again, but still wondered what you had just watched? The Wave is kind of like that, but not in a bad way. I mean, the main character spends most of the movie tripping on some drug, so of course not everything is very clear. This film is what you get when you mix drugs, Justin Long, some trippy maybe time-altering drug, Donald Faison, and a missing wallet: a trippy but funny tale with a twist of time travel. Interested? Here is the synopsis from Epic Pictures: Frank, an opportunistic insurance lawyer, thinks he’s in for the time of his life when he goes out on the town to celebrate a soon-to-be promotion with his co-worker, Jeff, but their night takes a turn for the worse when Frank is dosed with a hallucinogenic that alters his […]
Have you ever looked at someone in your life and wondered why you were friends with them? Besides laughing out loud, this thought crossed my mind while I watched Richie, Jonah, and Sasha interact. In fact, the film opens with Aristotle’s explanation of types of friendship. Rob Grant’s Harpoon is labeled as a comedy/horror and it delivers on both. Well, if I’m being honest, I laughed more than anything and wondered why these three amusing jerks were still friends. So what is it about? Here is the summary from the press release: Rivalries, dark secrets, and sexual tension emerge when three best friends find themselves stranded on a yacht in the middle of the ocean desperate for survival. With plenty of alcohol and very little food and water, emotions run high and their delusions become a reality. As the days stretch on and death seems inevitable, their terrifying truths float […]
