Again, I stand by the assertion that it helps we have a live-action Mortal Kombat movie coming in early 2021. WB Animation is ready to put out its own contribution to the fans of the longstanding franchise in April with Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, and a new, pleasingly red-band trailer is out and about this week. Once a generation, a tournament is held to between the champions of Outworld and Earthrealm. This tournament will determine the fate of Earth and all its citizens. With a year to go until a new live-action film, a Spring 2020 release is in the works for Ethan Spauldings latest animated effort, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. I’ve never seen Spaulding’s work apart from some clips, so at least I knew what I was in for with an animated film based on a fighting game property. At best, this will be an R-rated endeavor, so fans can hopefully look forward to an ample load of promising violence here. Collider brought the goods via IGN. Check it out above!

It was last year at the tail-end of any thick speculation regarding a live-action film that Revenge Of The Fans touted news of an animated Mortal Kombat movie featuring the voices of Joel McHale (Community) and Jennifer Carpenter (Dragged Across Concrete). It wasn’t exactly news I welcomed at first given the 20+ years of frustration I felt from waiting for new live-action Kombat, but time does change perception; The live-action film from director Simon McQuoid is one year away from its release from Warner Bros. Pictures, while its neighboring animation shingle is now par for the course with Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpions Revenge.
