THE FLASH: Michael Keaton In Talks To Reprise The Role Of Bruce Wayne For A ‘Multiverse’ Twist

It’s been twenty eight years since actor Michael Keaton paired with Tim Burton at the helm for Batman Returns – sequelizing their critical and commercial 1989 inaugural box office hit, Batman. Now it appears the Need For Speed and American Assassin actor may soon reprise his incarnation of Bruce Wayne for The Flash, according to Umberto Gonzalez at The Wrap. While nothing is official just yet, talks are underway for the actor to join the production which has Andrés Muschietti (It: Chapter Two) directing from the latest draft by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson. I honestly have no idea when people started calling him Casper Kiriya – I always new the Last Knights director as Kiriya Kazuaki ever since I obsessed over the awesomeness that was his 2004 manga adaptation, Casshern, and his 2009 folkloric follow-up, Goemon. Warner Bros. Variety’s exclusive on Tuesday revealed that Spider-Man: Homecoming scribes John Francis-Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are in talks to finally crew-up the directors’ chair Warner Bros.’s long-gestating Flash movie. The film, Flashpoint, will be their third pairing as directors after Vacation and upcoming action comedy, Game Night, hailing the latest development in a stained period of preproduction for the film after Ezra Miller became attached to the role in 2014. Brief delays ensued in the last few years as the revolving door of known directors in talks swung with “creative differences” becoming central to the respective departures of Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), and thereafter with Seth-Grahame Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), and even DCEU staple Ben Affleck who currently lays claim to the role of Batman in the franchise. Few films have the kind of rocky origin story that Justice League has had. Its predecessor, the “surefire hit” Batman v Superman, was savaged by critics and audiences alike. Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have been hitting hard and heavy in the days leading up to this weekend’s New York Comic Con for Justice League. Hailing from director with extinuating work by Joss Whedon in recent months, time will tell if all those rumored reshoots made a difference when the film opens next month. Warner Bros. Had enough press following last week’s pulse-pounding comic con trailer for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad? Well, make room for just a little more, because news broke on Thursday of a press kit that just revealed more than one superhero cameo will be in the film. Yes, you probably already know Batman will make an appearance, but leave it to The Wrap who have it on good terms that actor Ezra Miller will make a pit stop as well in the role of The Flash. It may have taken Nigerian-American director Rick Famuyiwa seventeen years, but he’s finally about to sink his teeth into something much larger than those of his earlier credits. The word now is that he’s well on the way to directing The Flash, replacing its former helmer Seth Grahame-Smith who left the project more than a month ago due to “creative differences”. Famuyiwa will direct with a script by Grahame-Smith treated from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller that has since cast actor Ezra Miller in the title role as inspired by the 1940 DC Comics publication. On the eve of the CW’s second season premiere of its own television iteration of The Flash, writer and author Seth Grahame-Smith is poised to debut in the director’s chair ahead of the forthcoming release of Warner Bros.’s own DCCU installment, according to THR. The news comes long after slowly developing progress toward announcements since the success of Man Of Steel in 2013 and what lies ahead for WB upon the release of next year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
