Viacom18 Studios and Marflix have announced Fighter, a new Indian air force military action adventure rejoining Bang Bang! and War duo, actor Hrithik Roshan and director Siddharth Anand. The first official motion poster teaser is now running online with production signaling a January 25 release next year on the eve of India’s 75th Republic Day. Shamsher Pathania, an aspiring young man, fulfills his lifelong dream of joining the Indian Air Force. As he faces rigorous personal challenges, Shamsher must rise above his own limitations to be a true hero of the Indian Armed Forces. Fighter also reunites Anand with Pathaan leading lady Deepika Padukone who will next be seen in the Shah Rukh Khan-led Jawan and in the Hindi/Telugu Prahbas starrer, Kalki 2898 A.D., and also stars Anil Kapoor whose next appearance will be later this year in Animal starring Ranbir Kapoor. If you’re into films with actors making their debuts, and if you especially enjoy sports dramas, Jéro Yun’s Fighter may just be more your speed. I’m not at all sure what the casting process was here, but it was awesome being introduced to actress Lim Seong-mi in her first lead role and absolutely killing it, and the ceremony she’s been receiving ever since. Starring as a “North Korean Refugee” makes for even more interesting cinema, especially given the ongoing state of the region and its dichotomy. Seeing how Lim absorbs the character with utmost consumption as she embarks on her character’s journey, firstly with a voice over narration about how South Korean would describe her – hence the quotations above.
