At long last, AFM is underway with acclaimed auteur Takashi Miike taking the floor alongside sales reps at Toei for upcoming crime thriller, Sham. In the meantime, his latest aesthetic return to Crows Zero glory now invites a bevy of young leads for upcoming MMA action drama, Blue Fight. Ikuto and Ryoma meet in juvenile detention and become best friends, they pursue their dream of participating in the martial arts event Breaking Down. However, rivalries soon turn their dreams into unexpected conflicts. Miike directs Blue Fight from a script by Shin Kibayashi, which takes its cues from “Breaking Down,” the tournament fighting reality show on which the movie is loosely based; Blue Fight also hails from that show’s stewards, ex-MMA pro Mikuru Asakura, and entrepreneur Yuji Mizoguchi, who serve as producers on the film. Taking its cues from Kodansha’s 2001 manga hit, Let’s Go Karaoke! director Nobuhiro Yamashita’s latest is Confession, a wintery murder thriller set to arrive in May from Gaga Corporation. The Mole Song trilogy star Toma Ikuta stars in the film along with #Manhole co-star Nao, and South Korean transplant Yang Ik-joon who’s appeared in Believer 2, and Yoshiyuki Kishi’s back-to-back twofer, Wilderness with Masaki Suda. Jiyong gets seriously injured in a blizzard during a mountain trek with Asai, an old friend from college. Facing death, Jiyong confesses that he killed Asai’s ex-girlfriend Sayuri who went missing 16 years ago. The wind suddenly weakens, however, and the two find an empty hut nearby. Having escaped the freeze, Jiyong now demands Asai to confess his own sins. With the teaser behind us as of April, Gaga Corporation is moving onward as of Tuesday with the official trailer for One Last Bloom. Takahisa Zeze directed the new boxing drama which is slated for August 25 in Japan, and stars Ryusei Yokohama and Koichi Sato from Zeze’s script. Based on Kotaro Sawaki’s 2017 novel, One Last Bloom was launched as the international title being sold under Gaga’s world sales banner at Cannes. The cast is also led by Kanna Hashimoto, Masataka Kubota, Tsurutaro Kataoka, Tomoko Yamaguchi, Ryota Bando and Show Aikawa. Making the rounds from Thursday at the European Film Market is the new mystery action suspense thriller Generalprobe 7. Yukihiko Tsutsumi (2LDK, 20th Century Boys trilogy, The Big Bee, Hope) directs from a script by Keita Kawajiri, the cast is led by Kairi Miura with a release date set for April 21. The Troupe Seven has gained popularity among the young generation but there has been an uneasy atmosphere since the death of the charismatic leader Soga. The opening of their new play “Shakespeare Legends” is just around the corner with a new member but the rehearsal keeps on collapsing by blaming each other’s faults.
