THE RUNNING MAN: UK Filming Underway Rebooting The Dystopian Action Classic For Q4 2025
Production is now underway in the UK for Edgar Wright’s iteration of The Running Man. Hit Man and Twisters star Glen Powell is starring along with Josh Brolin, Katy O’Brian, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones and William H. Macy. An action classic reboot of the 1987 TriStar release with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wright takes a page from “Richard Bachman” to provide something much closer to pennamed author Stephen King’s 1982 novel. Wright penned with co-scribe Michael Bacall and is producing alongside Simon Kinberg and Nira Park for the film’s November 2025 release. Based on the 1982 Stephen King novel, The Running Man centres around a deadly game show in which one man must outrun professional killers over 30 days to win a cash prize and save his sick child. HIT MAN: Richard Linklater’s Latest Nabbed By Netflix For U.S. Amid Multi-Territorial Deal
Fresh out of premiering in Venice and most recently in Toronto, Netflix has acquired Hit Man, the new movie from Richard Linklater (School of Rock, Dazed and Confused). The film stars Glen Powell (The Expendables 3, Top Gun: Maverick) who penned the film with Linklater based on Skip Hollandsworth’s ‘Texas Monthly’ article. Shot on location in New Orleans in Louisiana, Hit Man sees Powell in the role of Gary Johnson: the most sought-after professional killer in New Orleans. DEVOTION: Black Label Aims For Early 2021 Start On 1950s War Epic With Jonathan Majors And Glen Powell Starring
Sweetheart helmer J.D. Dillard is revving up to direct war epic, Devotion, based on Adam Makos’s biographical 2014 novel, beginning in February 2021. STXinternational is handling international sales on the project at this year’s virtual Toronto International Film Festival, as announced by Black Media Label on Friday. Actors Jonathan Majors (Da 5 Bloods, ‘Lovecraft Country’) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Hidden Figures) will star in the film from a script by Dillard, revised from a previous draft Jake Crane and Jonathan A. Stewart. Black Label, whose Molly Smith, Rachel Smith, Thad Luckinbill and Trent Luckinbill are producing, is fully financing the pic.
