GODZILLA: RESURGENCE Is Invading North America Later This Year!

Thursday night saw some terrific announcements at Comic-Con International: San Diego from the good folks at Funimation. Their official website has a bit more information but if you live in North America and cult monster movie fare is your thing, look no further than the latest press release announcing Funimation Films’s acquisitions of Godzilla: Resurgence which opens in Japan from Toho later this year. The film is just one in several of the biggest moves made in the live-action department with Funimation having ultimately grown into a growing mecca of all things Otaku. Gareth Edwards’s 2014 epic reboot of Godzilla may have fared well with some fans, but the mothership to which it belongs, Toho, his aiming for something that aspires greatly to pay homage to many the tropes that made it so memorable as of 1954. Thus, we get the stunning new Godzilla: Resurgence which roars next Friday in Japan cinemas, and with all the authenticity you could ask for in reviving such a property as grand as this one. SYNOPSIS: A cause unknown, an accident has occurred in the tunnels of the Tokyo Bay Aqua Line, causing an emergency cabinet meeting to convene. Immediately afterwards, a huge creature appears, destroying town after town with its landing reaching the capital. GODZILLA: RESURGENCE Rewakens Roaring Classic Aesthetics In The New Teaser!

Hollywood’s knack for balls-to-the-wall blockbuster filmmaking notwithstanding, director Gareth Edwards’s 2014 reprisal of classic Toho mainstay for Warner Bros., Godzilla, didn’t bode well for all of its observers. Some loved it in its delivery and even enough to help grant it its upcoming sequel while others were critical and probably a few hated it. Fast foward to 2016 and through the past two years in which Toho announced it would not be outdone by Hollywood’s standards. No, no…Godzilla is their baby – a 389 foot-tall subterranean atomic fire-breathing creature baby with a bad temper and the will to use it! In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, just know that you’re not safe under that rock. Godzilla is returning on July 29, 2016 for the new film, Godzilla: Resurgence in Japan cinemas courtesy of Toho Company Ltd. and the density of said rock probably won’t matter. Visual effects whiz and filmmaker Higuchi Shinji, having gotten his feet fully wet with monster titles relevant to Gamera, the live-action Attack On Titan films and the like, and here and now with a script by Anno Hideaki that makes way for a Godzilla that aims to dwarf that of Legendary Pictures’s most recent Hollywood endeavors.
