Legendary On Track To Shoot Fifth Monsterverse Installment In Australia This Year

News rolled out over the weekend and was later confirmed via trade reports on Monday the greenlight of a fifth Monsterverse installation from Legendary Pictures. Plot details are unknown about the film which will otherwise shoot later this year in locations across the Gold Coast and the southeast, as announced by State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk. Screen Queensland reports the film will deliver an economic boost of A$79.2M ($58.6M) to the region and create 505 jobs for local cast and crew, plus opportunities for 750 extras. ~Deadline The film will undoubtedly follow-up the vision explored in Adam Wingard’s 2021 hit Godzilla VS Kong, in which our two gargantuan creatures clash in a super-sized rivalry, spawned by a man-driven conspiracy that results in an epic three-way battle with cataclysmic results. Should a third live action Gintama film arise in the coming years, at least it’ll have a few more fourth-wall gags to tap into per actor Oguri Shun‘s growing career. The two initial Fukuda Yuichi-directed manga adaptations are hits at home and abroad, otherwise now signaling Shun’s crossover readiness with word from Deadline that he’ll be joining the currently growing roster for Godzilla VS. Kong from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Oguri, whose career spans several of hits from a list of hit directors including Kitamura Ryuhei, Miike Takashi, Quentin Tarantino, and as of late, Fukuda Yuichi, now adds The Guest helmer Adam Wingard who helms the fourth installment that succeeds Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla (2014) and Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island (2017); Michael Doughterty’s forthcoming Godzilla: King Of The Monsters wrapped in September for its May 31, 2019 release. Adam Wingard To Helm GODZILLA VS. KONG

Making a name for himself with low-budget horror thrillers You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die, and The Guest, Adam Wingard has closed a deal with Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. to direct the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong for a May 22, 2020 release date. Legendary and Warner have teamed up to revive the classic monster universe. Starting with the 2014 release of Godzilla, it culminated with the phenomenal success of Kong: Skull Island earlier this year (which has grossed $565 million, globally) that a sequel, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, starring Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, and Millie Bobby Brown, is currently in production. Wingard’s directorial reboot of Blair Witch last year was made for $5 million and had a box office run of $45.2 million. Depending on who you are, you either may or may not have seen the news of a crossover movie between King Kong and Godzilla coming at the time Gareth Edwards drew huge praise for his own remake last year. Fast forward a year later with monster movie success now a thing following the release of Jurassic World this past summer prior to its sequel, Kong: Skull Island in the works and what with all the Gamera excitement and Toho’s own Godzilla movie filming as of last month, and general pining for a Pacific Rim 2, and now it appears Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros are making it official.
