“You have no idea, what I’ve done…”
HAVOC premieres April 25 on Netflix!
Action thriller Havoc is finally underway with additional photography on the Gareth Huw Evans-directed pic. Production previously took place between July and October of 2021 before Evans hinted at some more needed work on the film in the last few years. Several factors hampered its speed in that time, including cast scheduling, the pandemic, and the strikes. In that time, Evans also took the time to refurbish his hit 2011 actioner, The Raid, which screened for select audiences and debuted on 4K disc back in January. With Havoc, the film had reportedly been complete with just five percent of production remaining. On Monday, Evans formally announced on Instagram that that cameras were rolling to get the rest finished. Contrary to rumours over the last 2 and a half years – today actually marks the first day of additional photography to finally complete HAVOC. It’s been a long old road filled […]
Director Gareth Evans (Apostle) shot his shot earlier this year with Netflix, scoring a major deal to produce several projects in a creative partnership with the streamer. The first to come will be Havoc, as announced back in February with Tom Hardy and Forest Whitaker set to star. As of Monday, more names are being added to the roster including Timothy Olyphant (FX’s Justified, Disney+’s The Mandalorian), Justin Cornwell (CBS’s Training Day, Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy), Jessie Mei Li (Netflix’s Shadow And Bone, upcoming Last Night in Soho), Malaysia’s Yeo Yann Yann (Wet Season, Lee Chong Wei). In addition, actor Luis Guzmán will also star in a supporting line-up next to Quelin Sepulveda, UFC mixed martial artist Michelle Waterson, and The Night Comes For Us star Sunny Pang. After a drug deal gone wrong, a bruised detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged […]
Trades are reporting this week that Forest Whitaker (Marvel’s Black Panther), will join actor Tom Hardy in new Netflix thriller, Havoc, from celebrated director Gareth Evans. The film was announced with Hardy last month, a few years after Evans teased its development in an Instagram post. Whitaker’s addition to this film signals something pretty interesting that fans of Evans can take heed to, particularly for those familiar with the actor’s performances in films like Ghost Dog: Way Of The Samurai, and even Repo Men. His screenfighting caliber is a thing of beauty to witness, on top of his gravitas as a solid actor, all of which, depending on how his character is written, may make for something really special going forward. Evans, best known for leaving tower block hallways, staircases and Jakarta streets bloodied and mounted with perpetual bodycounts in the spectacle of back-to-back thrillers like Merantau, The Raid and […]
Gareth Evans (Merantau, The Raid, The Raid 2, Gangs Of London) is directing action thriller, Havoc, for Netflix, as announced by the streamer on Friday. The film, which will star Tom Hardy (Dunkirk, Venom, Legend) will stand as first in line from an exclusive directing/producing deal Evans has signed with the company for the next several years, following fhe streamer’s release of his 2018 period psych horror thriller, Apostle. After a drug deal gone wrong, a bruised detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, while unraveling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city. Hardy is also producing, as will Evans via his One More One Productions banner, next to Ed Talfan for Severn Screen and Aram Tertzakian for XYZ Films. Evans previously teased the project a little bit back in 2019, prior to XYZ’s own Todd Brown […]
Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro is reporting that filmmaker Jung Byung-gil will step to the helm for DMZ military thriller, Havoc. Production is slated for the Spring with a script inspired by actual events, penned by Eric Tipton and based on an original idea by Steve Barnett and Daniel Myrick. As D’Alessandro notes, Havoc “tells the story of a U.S. helicopter crashing on the North Korean side of the DMZ. With tensions between the North and South already on the verge of war, the surviving U.S. Army Reservists must work together to protect a civilian tech-specialist and find their way across the DMZ, without the possibility of U.S. military support. Both Jung and [Monarch Media’s Lewis] Kim served in the South Korean military, performing several missions with U.S. soldiers, and plan to bring their experiences to Havoc.” Bernie Goldmann is producing alongside Monarch Media’s Barnett and Alan Powell, and Kim, with Monarch’s […]
Gareth Evans will return to the director’s chair this August for action thriller, Havoc. Todd Brown, XYZ Films’ Head of International Acquisitions, made the announcement a few weeks ago during a shared panel at the Danish Film Institute with Alexander Brøndsted, co-producer on Lorcan Finnegan’s sci-fi thriller, Vivarium. Plot details and casting are underwraps for Havoc which marks a reunion for Evans and Brown who share credits dating back to their early partnership on Asian genre titles like The Raid, The Raid 2, V/H/S 2, and Netflix release, Apostle. Evans began teasing the project last summer with a shot of the script, and other pics featuring the pre-vis stunt performers for the project which also rejoins the Welsh director with action coordiantor Jude Poyer following Apostle, and their upcoming Sky gangster drama series, Gangs Of London. XYZ Films reps international sales on Vivarium which was acquired by Saban Films last […]
