John Chinaman – Boy this one is not a doozy to talk about. First off, the term Chinaman did not start as a negative term before the 1870’s. It was used for Chinese immigrants in America as a form of identity. Whereas adding John as a prefix, it was given by Census takers at the time when getting the identities of various new Chinese immigrants who would not give their names. Thus they were named John Chinaman which is a way of saying John Doe. It was around the 1870’s, the term Chinaman became a derogatory term as the Workingman’s Party were fed up with losing their jobs to Chinese immigrants and leading to the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882. And thus the rest of San Francisco is known as the “Duck Pond” outside of Chinatown. Episode 2 starts off with Ah Sahm, Young Jun and Bolo killing some Long Zi henchmen and destroying their shipment of Opium as a message from the Hop Wei of being the superior Tong in Chinatown. The news comes following a botched tweet last week wherein Garner posted an ill-timed teaser update at the time, exciting and riling up fans who’ve been waiting for a look at the new film based on the hit fighting game franchise by Netherrealm Studios and predecessor, Midway. MORTAL KOMBAT Confirms Day-And-Date Release Among Studio Slate For 2021

I’ve been hard up for the longest for anything related to Simon McQuoid’s Mortal Kombat, but the latest look here at the official logo is certainly appetizing in the least. The graphic appeared for the first time on Thursday in a new promo announcing the studio’s entire 17-title 2021 slate would all get day-and-date releases, with HBO Max premiering the movies on the same day as their theatrical releases. The film recently wrapped additional photography and was subsequently delayed as the pandemic crisis continues to worsen across the U.S., and reports this week also provided earlier insight that the studio did consider an HBO Max release. This week’s seen a fantastic growth of news for HBO Max subscribers, the latest two of which include current development of DC/Vertigo adaptation, DMZ, and Friday’s announcement of a series take based on the hit video game, The Last Of Us. Production is set to commence next year for a four part adaptation of DMZ, based on the 2005 Vertigo/DC publication, marking the latest milestone since its planned development first landed at SyFy in 2014. A little over a year since its originally-planned release last December, it appears that Warner Bros. Pictures is done kicking the can down the road further and has resigned to a releasing the long-awaited Wonder Woman 1984 simultaneously in 3D/2D/IMAX theaters and via HBO Max. The announcement was made Wednesday with a trailer relaunch, dating the film’s release accordingly in time for Christmas on December 25 in the U.S., with HBO Max releasing the film at no additional cost to subscribers. International markets will get to debut the film a week in advance from December 16. The Gerard Butler action adventure will debut on HBO, and then stream on HBO Max in the U.S. in early 2021, following a domestic release on Premium Video On-Demand (PVOD) beginning October 13. The new series will explore the origins of the Peacemaker character, the master of weapons, tying in to the highly anticipated upcoming DC adaptation, The Suicide Squad film, directed by James Gunn and currently aiming for an August 6, 2021 release. John Cena will reprise his role from the film to star in the series, with Gunn tapped to pen all eight episodes, as well as direct the first among multiple episodes as the company plans to shoot next year. HBO Max Head Signals End Of Original Content Production For Cinemax

A new report at Deadline on Wednesday cites HBO Max Chief Content Officer who told the crowd at this year’s Television Critics Association that Cinemax would not be producing any more original content. The word is also that original shows already on Cinemax would not be carried over to the new SVOD service which officially announced part of its slate and pricing late last year. Set in 1870s San Francisco, Warrior debuted last April, shepherded by exec producers Shannon Lee and co-creators Justin Lin, Jonathan Tropper and Danielle Woodrow, and starring Andrew Koji (upcoming Snake Eyes: G.I.
