Okay, it’s not necessarily an across-the-board universal truth or anything but I think we can all agree that there’s a degree of sameness to a lot of Netflix originals. That was my main concern going into “Day Shift”. Being J.J. Perry’s debut feature, I’m guessing a lot of people reading this had similar concerns about what could go wrong with this film. In my case, I’m confident in saying that my concerns were coming from a completely different place. I was concerned less as a fan of action films and moreso as a diehard fan of the vampire movie subgenre. Not too long ago legendary action coordinator J.J. Perry was on Scott Adkins’s YouTube show “The Art of Action” and dropped some hints that he and Scott, who first worked together on the low-budget action classic UNDISPUTED 2, would be teaming up again soon. Well… now we know what J.J. Perry was referring to as THR has reported that Scott Adkins is the latest addition to the cast of DAY SHIFT. A Netflix original film that will mark J.J. Perry’s main directorial debut. Adkins joins a cast headlined by Jamie Foxx but also includes Snoop Dog, Dave Franco, and Meagan Good. Perry has come a long way into a career of more than thirty years, from his young career in martial arts to military service, to becoming one of the foremost entertainers in film and television since the late eighties. Among his nominal list of credits in stunts, fight choreography, stunt coordinating and supervision, he’s best known for Warrior (2011), Haywire (2012), John Wick (2015) & John Wick: Chapter Two (2017), Bloodshot (2020), Fate Of The Furious (2018) and next year’s long-delayed F9, just to name a few.
