Two branches, one tree. Catch the new trailer for KARATE KID: LEGENDS!
KARATE KID: LEGENDS Finds Jackie Chan And Ralph Macchio Joining Forces In The Official Trailer
“Two branches. One tree.” That’s the tagline being touted for Karate Kid: Legends, the newest chapter in the ongoing Karate Kid franchise which still has one more season of Netflix series Cobra Kai before this film arrives. I’m especially curious as to how Ben Wang will be introduced into this saga after that show ends. I’m thinking cameos? Easter eggs? Maybe a surprise appearance by Hilary Swank? Who knows? In Karate Kid: Legends, after a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother. Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn’t want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere. When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition – but his skills alone […]
KARATE KID: LEGENDS Dons First Teaser Poster For The Sony Franchise Sequel
Marking the fifth film in the franchise is Karate Kid: Legends, as revealed by way of its recent NYCC goings on this week. The Sony Pictures release hails from director Jonathan Entwistle from a script by Rob Lieber, starring Disney+ series American Born Chinese star Ben Wang alongside franchise staples Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan. Little is known about the plot which otherwise sees Wang in the role of “a young teenager from China who finds identity and strength in martial arts. During his journey of self-discovery, Wang’s character meets a disciplined martial arts master,” per JoBlo. The cast also lists Joshua Jackson, Ming-Na Wen, Wyatt Oleff, Aramis Knight, Sadie Stanley, and more for the film’s May 30, 2025 theatrical release. The update comes a day following further casting news on the second half of sixth and final season of hit Karate Kid offshoot, Netflix series “Cobra Kai” which bows on the […]
POWER RANGERS Netflix Series Names Showrunner Jenny Klein
It was announced by Deadline that Jenny Klein, producer on The Witcher and Marvel series Jessica Jones on Netflix, would be joining the team for the upcoming Power Rangers Netflix series. Jenny will be joining Executive Producer Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This, The End of the F***ing World) and writer Bryan Edward Hill (Titans, Ash vs Evil Dead) on the project, which has been described as a “cinematic universe” by Entwistle and will feature “some familiar faces… in a brand new universe…” according to a recent Twitter post. The film is also described as a full reboot for the films. With the (undeserved, in this writer’s opinion) box office flop of the 2017 film, Hasbro elected to reboot the universe, and begin fresh with Entwistle at the helm. The Hollywood Reporter said in 2019 that the film would involve a time-travel element, sending the team back to the 1990s, but this […]
POWER RANGERS On Track To Feature Film And TV Treatments, Jonathan Entwistle To Direct Both
Three years later, Lionsgate’s efforts toward rebooting Ameritoku franchise IP, Power Rangers, remains with just Dave Green’s 2017 adaptation. The film did well at the box office, though the earnings weren’t enough to motivate a sequel going forward. Nonetheless, efforts to keep Power Rangers alive for the big screen haven’t waned in the least, with Hasbro taking the mantle with rights from Saban Films in 2018. Now, hopes remain steadfast as of Tuesday with word that Hasbro’s Entertainment One (eOne) will begin working toward feature film and television projects, with Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This co-creator, Netflix’s The End Of The F***ing World creator) directing on all ends. “Jonathan has an incredible creative vision for this iconic and hugely successful franchise, and is hands down the right architect to join us as we reimagine the television and film worlds of this property,” said Nick Meyer, President, Film, […]
POWER RANGERS Reboot Lands At Paramount, Allspark
I didn’t have huge expectations for Dave Green’s 2017 take on Power Rangers from Lionsgate, but I did have hopes. I reckon others did too, and mainly since took a liking to the edgier teenage appeal to the classic Ameritoku series in its return to the big screen. It did take me a bit to get used to Alpha 5’s new look, though as far as creative liberties go in Hollywood, it could’ve been way worse. The end definitely had me gripped a bit as well, hoping for a sequel that would’ve potentially introduced the Green Ranger in some form or another. Flash forward two years later and obviously that never came to pass. The cast moved onto other projects and despite falling short of any hopeful box office success, Hasbro still found potential in the property enough to acquire Saban’s Power Rangers last May, among other properties under Saban […]
