THE HIT LIST – January 25, 2016

My weekend started off as a bust on Saturday with that hugely ridic blizzard. The snow here was treacherous and almost impossible and with work in between, I’ve found myself putting this Hit List together late in the evening. Gladly, it’s here now and all is well and normal. As such, we begin this week’s latest entree of stunt and tricking reels with stellar demonstrations by Matt Emig and his latest quartet for a sync tricking session, followed by Sam Parham, Lee Huang, Steffen Jung, Judd Wild, Krista Jasper and Joe Chacon. WHITE TIGER Attacks With An Exclusive New Poster!

Director Toby Russell‘s long-awaited action thriller, White Tiger, is ever so close to a release now planned for next month. The film has already undergone a few exclusive screenigs so with any luck we’ll be hearing some constructive feedback on the film’s delivery aside from its explosive trailer. When I started preparing this list, I honestly didn’t think I would come across as many videos time around. Sure, there would be a few gems worth sharing, but it’s safe to say I pretty much out-did myself. Yes, let’s get to it… Upon competing nationally in Karate while in his native France, stuntman Thomas Lorber decided just a few years ago to apply his skill set to another craft attributed to his love for acting which he originally began in Canada. WHITE TIGER Uncages At AFM 2014 Next Month

It’s taken a while to happen, but there’s finally some movement on director Toby Russell‘s latest action adventure thriller, White Tiger. Gorilla Pictures will be on hand to represent the film when it finally premieres at the American Film Market on November 6 at 3:00pm PST. Y2K Films Presents: ONE FIGHT / THREE STYLES – TAKE TWO!

Another day, another experiment in action and fight design for Thailand-based stuntmen Kazu Patrick Tang, Charlie Ruedpokanon and Jawed El Berni in their second installment of 1 Fight/3 Styles. The goal here between all three performers is to work on their own styles of editing using the same footage. It’s something I wasn’t keen to figure out earlier on when they released their first one. Nevertheless though, the reaction is pretty positive so far, and I’m hard pressed to believe this will be their last. If you missed their first one, CLICK HERE to check it out. Premiere Thai stunt professional, actor and martial artist Kazu Patrick Tang is taking a step-by-step approach to becoming a film director as of late. It’s a great trend for someone heavily crafted in cinematic stunts and performamce martial arts in films like Raimund Huber’s Dragonwolf and Rashane Limtrakul’s Raging Phoenix to name a few, which could mean some awesome prospects in action films. It was last year that Tang relased his debut action short, Marksmen, featuring martial arts action performers, actors Brahim Achabbakhe and Ron Smoorenburg (Ninja: Shadow Of A Tear, Tekken 2: Kazuya’s Revenge). The shortfilm became a modest hit online within the niche, and ultimately, Tang’s first foray into a career in filmmaking that will hopefully flourish with the right people and opportunities to come his way. WHITE TIGER Kicks Into Action With A New Trailer!

Southeast Asia has been a longstanding beacon for stage-setting spectacular martial arts action films for many, many years, with the most recent being Ninja: Shadow Of A Tear, and the forthcoming release of Ekchai Uekrongtham’s Skin Trade to name a few. And this week, that trend continues with the latest jungle action thriller, White Tiger. Filmed in Thailand and Paupa New Guinea with director, Hong Kong action cinema veteran, actor and genre documentarian Toby Russell, the White Tiger was completed in 2012 following subsequent post-production until it was hampered by some legal issues at the time. At least now it seems things may be moving forward as we are finally granted a new trailer ahead of the Cannes next month, which I’m guessing means will probably lead to some distribution news sometime this year. An Assassin Becomes An Avenging Angel In Martial Arts Short Thriller, MARKSMEN

The latest film festival gem making its way online this weekend is the sixteen-minute martial arts assassin thriller, Marksmen. The shortfilm was directed by stuntman and actor Kazu Patrick Tang best known for his amazing performances in such blockbuster Thai action thrillers like Raging Phoenix (2009) with actress Jeeja Yanin, the balls-to-the-wall action spectacle, Bangkok Knockout (2010), and his latest role in director Raimund Huber’s manga-style romantic action thriller, Dragonwolf (2012). This time around, Tang steps into the director’s chair with actor, martial arts stuntman and fight choreographer Brahim Achabbahke leading the way in a story following the events of an assassin who retaliates against his employer when he is mistaken as a cop killer. From L to R: Brahim Achabbakhe, Ron Smoorenburg and Kazu Patrick Tang Brahim Achabbahke, Ron Smoorenburg and Kazu Patrick Tang are three of the most experienced and talented stunt coordinators and performers of the industry, compiling nearly twenty four years in their field working on such films as Who Am I?, Unleashed, Mercury Man, The Kick, Kill Em’All and Dragonwolf to name a few. Filmmaker Raimund Huber has a new movie coming out from Epic Pictures, just after the recent release of Kill Em’ All. His latest film is called Dragonwolf, a “manga-style” shot action adventure about two assassins of the same company who become bitter rivals when a woman comes between them. The film stars Macha Polivka, writer Johan Kirsten and Kazu Patrick Tang who also serves as the film’s action director and stunt coordinator along with Surin Kambooraung.
