TACFEST 2024 Review: KIGURUMI BLADE: Brawls, Bullets and Cosplay

A mysterious evil organization goes after a junior high school student, luckily for him, he finds the protection of a young mysterious girl who is well trained in the art of violence and hides her identity under a bulletproof kigurumi costume (term used for costumes of animal characters in Japan.) Beneath this a priori simple plot lies a much more complex story that goes evolving until unfold the real motives under the chase of the main characters. A story that takes place in a motley film universe inhabited by a bunch of peculiar characters that are driven by the only way to communicate that they know, the language of violence. KIGURUMI BLADE Strikes Again With A New Trailer Ahead Of Osaka Screenings!

Director Shingo Soejima and his team have alotted weeklong screenings at Osaka’s Theater Seven venue for his latest whimsical assassin thriller, Kigurumi Blade, from November 18. Soejima, who won the crowd over during last year’s JFFH run for his feature debut, Eleven Greed, directs Kigurumi Blade from a script he wrote with Kunihiko Okamoto, and produced with Kazuki Maeda. Somewhere in sometime in Japan, maybe… A boy “KAKERU” spend to normal life in middle high school. Suddenly he kidnaped by Yakuza. He saved by “Moo” wearing the KIGURUMI in the deep mountain. Adorable Cosplay Fashions With Deadly Intent In KIGURUMI BLADE Teaser!

Director Shingo Soejima continues to make moves this year after winning audiences over with his most recent local release, Eleven Greed. His latest effort, Kigurumi Blade, is now on the way and as of February with teaser footage and poster art that’s all the more menacing for a dark, gritty gangster thriller with killer action and spectacle to cosign. Soejima directs from a script he wrote with Kunihiko Okamoto for a story that centers on a mysterious cosplay assassin who protects a boy being targeted by a major organization. The cast is led by Harumi Kasamatsu and Yasushin Nakazawa, with action sequences by Akira Ogiwara and key stunts by Haruka Kitagaki in the killer suit that serves as titular to the film’s creative direction.
