Streaming Sleepers: Stream ALIENOID: PART ONE Ahead Of The Upcoming Sequel!

With the fair certainty of the second part set to arrive sometime this year, it’s worth making note that director Choi Dong-hoon’s fantasy time-travel sci-fi adventure, Alienoid: Part 1, is now streaming on Prime Video in the U.S. The film stars Kim Tae-ri, Ryu Jun-yeol, Kim Woo-bin, and Choi Yoo-ri in the story that spans two time periods in which robot bounty hunters caring for a Joseon orphan in present-day Korea, and a fledgling Joseon-era Taoist wizard eyeing a mysterious gun-toting woman in search of a “divine blade,” meet head-on as an alien invasion looms. ALIENOID Review: A Whimsically Thrilling Sci-Fi Fantasy Pot-Pourri

Filmmaker Choi Dong-hoon‘s newest out-of-this-world hodgepodge fantasy sci-fi epic arrives this summer in the form of Alienoid, a film whose narrative, larger-than-life storyline has long since been planned as a two-part saga. It’s a particularly fitting approach in this case, especially from a director who is no stranger to storytelling at runtimes of nearly two-and-a-half hours, and with a film like Alienoid whose inaugural story involves two parallel arcs, split between time periods and a myriad of intertwining characters. The pieces here are all subject to supernatural intrigue and mystery as Alienoid invites you into a universe where extraterrestrials see humans as “aliens” themselves. Woochi and The Thieves director Choi Dong-hoon’s latest pic looks about as whimsically entertaining as you’d hope. In a word, it’s called Alien and it’s the first of two back-to-back titles arriving this year, starring firstly with Ryu Jun-yeol (Money), Kim Tae-ri (Space Sweepers) and Kim Woo-bin (Master). The door of time opens between the swordsmen who want to seize the legendary divine sword at the end of the Goryeo Dynasty and those who chase after an alien prisoner imprisoned in a human body in 2022.

The least anyone expected in the past year would be to have to wait out a whole pandemic in order to have some semblance of some semblance of fun (yes, I wrote it like that, and you read it correctly the same). Moviegoers the world around were resigned to such a fate even as trailers for Jo Sung-hee’s latest star-spangled space rouser, Space Sweepers, made the rounds with small trailer bits touting a hopeful release last summer, and so with its delay came the usual brouhaha over releasing films onto smaller screens despite helmers priming their work for more grandiose theatrical showings. It’s been four years since Jo Sung-hee had a theatrical release with credits like A Werewolf Boy and Phantom Detective in his wake. That all changes this summer with last year’s production on space thriller, The Victory, following in the footsteps of Asia’s successes in recent years with Frant Gwo’s The Wandering Earth, and other spotlights such as Shanghai Fortress and upcoming sci-fi thriller, Warriors Of Future. THE VICTORY: Jo Sung-Hee’s Korea/China-Backed Trailblazing Sci-Fi Shoots Next Month

Developments have been slowly brewing for years for Jo Sung-Hee’s new movie, The Victory. At long last though, it appears the wheels are finally turning for Jo’s long-awaited effort toward shooting South Korea’s first sci-fi feature beginning next month. Principally backed by Merry Chistmas with an investment upwards of $4.2 million dollars from Huayi Tencent Entertainment, The Victory aims to further cement business between China and South Korea following a three year stalemate that has affected China’s Korean film releases according to Variety‘s own Sonia Kil. China and South Korea have had frosty political relations for the past three years and the import of Korean films into China has dried up. If you have a taste for Korean dramas to stream on Netflix, I actually have a few in mind. Of course, Iris fans can always look forward to Mr. Sunshine which has Lee Byung-Hun front and center on much of the PR for this epic 24-episode series from Descendants Of The Sun and Goblin duo Kim Eun-sook and Lee Eung-bok who share writing and directing duties, respectively.
