Netflix Sci-Fi Series ALTERED CARBON Counts Bodies And Lives In The Electric First Teaser

Fans anxiously awaiting Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi action series, Altered Carbon, now have a release date carved for February 2 next year. The streaming network unveiled the date in the first official teaser for the new literary-inspired show created and run by Laeta Kalogridis, along with a good old-fashioned advertisement to fit the narrative laden with a murky, dystopian neo-noir setting and immersive color and spectacle to start. And of course, visuals peppered up with explosive action and kicks to the sternum. Based on the award-winning novel, Altered Carbon takes place in a future where the human mind can now be digitized and downloaded into a “cortical stack” and placed into new bodies, called sleeves. SWORD ART ONLINE TV Adaptation Adds Showrunners/Exec Producers

Skydance’s forthcoming live-action television adaptation of hit Japanese IP property, Sword Art Online (SAO), now comes attached with award-winning writer/producer duo Patrick Massett and John Zinman (Friday Night Lights, The Blacklist, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider). The move signals the start of a multi-year deal between the parties following last year’s announcement. Skydance’s SAO series will follow brilliant young beta tester Kirito and his group of friends when they are trapped, along with 10,000 other people, in a next-generation virtual reality online role-playing game filled with swordfighting, monsters, and mystery. Masset and Zinman will serve as showrunners, and will also share writing duties on the pilot with Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Altered Carbon) who first shepherded the project to the studio. SWORD ART ONLINE Is Plugging Into Live-Action Series Development With Skydance, Kadokawa

Opinions may vary, but if there was ever a manga or anime series to get into as someone who loves anything Otaku, it’s author Kawahara Reki’s hit 2009 print, Sword Art Online. The show itself is currently available on Netflix with both seasons following the emotional roller-coaster full of action, suspense, intrigue, danger and romance encompassing the lives of coming-of-age young adults keen on virtual reality multi-player online gaming. Ito Tomohiko directed the series is also helming the forthcoming 2017 feature anime, Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale, which will take on the events following the Gun Gale Online and Mother’s Rosario arcs in 2014. Netflix Series ALTERED CARBON Sets Joel Kinnaman To Star

Actor Joel Kinnaman’s next move as of Thursday will be back to Netflix following the four season run of The Killing. Various trade sites are now confirming the actor’s attachment to Skydance’s series adaptation of Richard Morgan’s 2002 novel, Altered Carbon, for which Miguel Sapochnik will direct for ten episodes. Laeta Kalogridis, who reportedly wrote a script treatment based on the novel, will provide the script which takes place in the 25th century with a story that attributes to tropes such as digitizing the mind and the transference of souls from one body to another. In this cyberpunk millieu, Kinnaman in the role of Takeshi Kovas – a former elite interstellar warrior known as an Envoy imprisoned for 500 years and is trapped in future he tried to avoid, and must solve a seemingly impossible murder to set himself free.
