Production is currently under way as of January 3 over at Hengdian World Studios for Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain, based on the classic novel and IP of the same name by late renowned Chinese writer Louis Cha (a.k.a. Jin Yong). IQIYI is producing the film with director Lu Yang at the helm, marking the novel’s first adaptation for the silver screen. The story centers on Hu Fei, a talented young swordsman who ventures into deep cover among the gang of Eight Villains in order to avenge his father’s death. Reportedly two years in post-production according to Variety, director Lu Yang (Brotherhood Of Blades, Brotherhood Of Blades 2) is back in the headlines with long-awaited fantasy actioner, Assassin In Red. Long since incidentally having to wait out the Covid-19 pandemic that all but paralyzed Chinese film production until about month ago, the new film is currently readying a Lunar New Year release set for February 12, 2021. In order to find his missing daughter, Guan Ning accepted a secret task from Tu Ling to assassinate an internet novelist. As Guan getting deeper involved in the mission, he found out that the novelist has an ability to influence the real world through his writing. There’s a parallel world connected to the reality. Assassin In Red stars Lei Jiayin, Yang Mi and Dong Zijian, is produced by Ning Hao, and backed by CMC Pictures.

While investigating a case, Shen Lian becomes wrapped up in his own conspiracy. In order to prove his innocence, he teams up with Bei Zhai to clear his name before time runs out. Theres not much revealed here, but in large part, the latest quick teaser here for director Lu Yang‘s new film, Brotherhood Of Blades, does serve up some colorful visuals with a fast mix of sword-wielding and arrow-shooting. The upcoming Ming Dynasty period actioner is written by Chen Shu and sets The Grandmaster co-star lead actor Chang Chen in a story of three sworn brothers caught in a web of conspiracy, murder and intrigue. Chen is joined by Liu Shishi, Nie Yuan, Wang Qianyuan and Li Dongxue. The film is produced by fellow John Woo cohort Terence Chang (“Face/Off,” “Red Cliff,” “Mission: Impossible II”), and is set for a China release this August, with further dates and distribution news pending courtesy of IM Global.
