It’s taken a few years to brew, but director Luke Sparke’s new sci-fi thriller Primitive War is finally moving forward. The adaptation of Ethan Pettus’s debut 2017 novel is set to commence principal photography on Australia’s Gold Coast, employing over 200 local crew members. Heading up the Queensland production are Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Jeremy Piven (Entourage, Old School), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica, Lucifer), and Nick Wechsler (The Boys, Revenge). Luke Sparke (Occupation, Occupation: Rainfall) will write and direct an adaptation of Ethan Pettus’ debut 2017 novel, “Primitive War: Opiate Undertow”. Sparke has since also secured the rights via his Sparke Films banner to the current three-part series which is comprised of 2020 follow-up, “Primitive War II: Animus Infernal” and the upcoming “Primitive War III: Aeon Ouroboros”. According to announcements this week, “Primitive War will explore the tragedies and atrocities of the Vietnam War and the horror of man meeting the ultimate Apex predators: dinosaurs.” Carly Imrie, Zachary Garred and Carmel Imrie will produce, reteaming from Occupation: Rainfall.
