Kevin Tancharoen may have abstained from his former prospects as the hopeful director of a once-promised live action Mortal Kombat feature film, but his filmmaking days are clearly far from over as he has since moved forward with other creative ideas at his disposal. As such, we are now accommodated with Tancharoen‘s s brand new shortfilm, The Gable 5, which sees Dollhouse star and TV genre icon, actress Eliza Dushku as the unwitting subject of a government-sanctioned off-the-books experiment to find a way to end mankind’s capacity for war. The new shortfilm arrived this week for actor, writer and director Moe Charif‘s latest shortfilm contribution, Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I’m not at all familiar with the video game, nor have I yet learned the state of this particular project as to whether or not it will go toward anything larger as far as a webseries or even a feature film. Live-action adaptations of video games have had their fair share of lows and highs in the past several decades, with some films undergoing relentless criticism by fans of the original property. Nowadays, companies like Machinima have made a distinctive effort in changing all of that with several channels to its brand and a variety of programming tweaked specifically for its niche of online gamers and content consumers. And adding to that growing list this month is the announcement of new webseries in the form of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, loosely based on the 2011 game installation of the same name. You know a director like Guy Ritchie has done something brilliant when he seemingly inspires other artists to interpret his comprehensive, cerebral style of work. Such is the case with director Joe Miale‘s latest live-action independent online shortfilm take on the highly acclaimed UbiSoft property in Assassin’s Creed: Checkmate. It’s probably a good thing that Orlando Jones wasn’t too serious about taking over Tyler Perry’s original character, Madea in any upcoming films, otherwise he and director Avi Youbian wouldn’t have had the time to bring us his latest role in Tainted Love, a bold, new graphic novel, stylized action comedy webseries from Machinima Prime. The new series has already premiered its first season episode on Sunday May 5, with its second, airing on Thursday, May 9, and you can definitely tell that its not for the faint of heart. TAINTED LOVE is laced with raw, mature humor, brutal action violence and vulgarity–all the juicy things you would see in an R-rated movie (or Adult Swim…or Max After Dark.
