MAX CLOUD Review: Middling Nostalgic Sci-Fi Thrills As Scott Adkins Lets Loose On Alien Scum

Anyone who’s endulged in sci-fi fandom in the last sixty or seventy years will be able to construe what director Martin Owen goes for with his latest endeavor, Max Cloud. The first look stills of the past year were enough to lend something of an idea as to the aesthetic, and the headlining addition of actor Scott Adkins does lend something to look forward to. Certainly, it’s a different kind of film for the relatively well-known martial arts star famously known for his more brooding performances in the Undisputed franchise and Jesse Johnson’s Avengement among other hits. Max Cloud reteams Owen with actress Sally Collet (Twist) who also co-stars, and with whom Owen penned the script. MAX CLOUD: Scott Adkins Sci-Fi Action Comedy Journeys To North America For Well Go USA This December

Killers Anonymous and Twist helmer Martin Owen’s action-packed sci-fi comedy, Max Cloud, has been acquired by Well Go USA for North American distribution this December on digital and on-demand. Owen directs from a script he co-wrote with Sally Collett, for a cast led by actress Isabelle Allen (Les Misérables, Killers Anonymous), and starring actor and martial artist Scott Adkins (Ip Man 4) in the title role. The story is described as one that “transports viewers back to the era of classic video games, when crimped hair was as hip as velour tracksuits and Animal Crossing and Fortnite were perhaps closer to alien technology than to reality.” Allen plays teen gamer Sarah who accidentally opens a secret portal hidden in her favorite side-scroller, where she finds herself trapped in an intergalactic prison home to the galaxy’s most dangerous villains.
