Maverick Entertainment has announced that the boxing youth drama, Boxed In, has been acquired by Peacock and will launch exclusively on the streamer from November 1, and will release on all other platforms from December 1. The film is debut-directed by Ariel Julia Harston with lead actress Reginae Carter (Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta) – daughter to recording artist Lil’ Wayne – in her breakout role. Ria is an up-and-coming female boxer whose one and only focus is to be the best boxer alive. That’s until she meets Tuga, who shows her that a life without love really isn’t a life at all. Boxed In also stars Clifton Powell, Zane Copeland, Sean Freeman, and Ernestine Johnson. The film is produced by J. Carter and LaShon Carter, along with Javier McIntosh, Tenia Wright, Reginae Carter, Chiquita Hooks, Ariel Julia Hairston, Azaria Oldacre and Kirsten Grace Hoge.
Maverick Entertainment is proudly rolling out upcoming documentary, The Bam: The Willie Johnson Story. The film is set to release on August 17 from director Robert Parham, who also produced the doc with Johnson. The gripping story of how martial arts transformed a criminal into a 7-time World Champion, a community leader and a real man. Willie Johnson tells his story through his own words, from the highs to the lows, and how he has triumphed over it all. The doc comes just as Johnson, martial arts champion and multi-hall of famer and co-star of hit TV series WMAC Masters, stays the course with upcoming martial arts indie drama, 1 Out Of 100, among other projects in the works from Johnson’s wheelhouse. He’s on the move, so keep an eye out for all the goings-on and visit Maverick for more info.
