I just spent my morning watching and reviewing one of the worst action films I’ve ever seen. That piece goes up early July, while I can genuinely assert that the official trailer footage signaling the latest from director William Kaufman proffers better times ahead. That brings us to action crime thriller The Channel, heading to theaters and on-Demand on July 14 following its acquisition by Brainstorm Media. It stars Clayne Crawford, Max Martini, and Nicoye Banks from a script by Kaufman and co-writer Paul Reichelt. After their bank heist goes wrong, a desperate criminal, his out-of-control brother and their motley crew of ex-Marines must escape New Orleans and the determined FBI agent who pursues them. Kaufman has a few films coming out in the coming year. In the interim, Fandango and Vudu exclusively premiered the trailer for The Channel on Tuesday which you can view below.
Keeping tabs with fans via social media, actor and debut director Max Martini has been chronicling his efforts in the past few years with the new inspirational military drama Sgt. Will Gardner. Following its acquisition by Cinedigm in October, a first full trailer and poster has since aired in the past week introducing Martini in the title role based on his own script. SGT. Will Gardner tells the story of Will (Max Martini), an Iraq War veteran who suffers from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) sustained in combat that is making it difficult for him to reintegrate into society. His PTSD causes frequent flashbacks to the Iraq War which he survives with the help of Sam (Omari Hardwick), his best friend and war buddy. A series of setbacks motivates him to embark on a spirited motorcycle journey across America with the hopes of reuniting with his son and to begin […]
Cinedigm has acquired U.S. rights to Sgt. Will Gardner. Actor Max Martini (Redbelt, 13 Hours, Captain Phillips) takes on multiple facets this time starring, as well as directing from his own script. He produces as well with Michael Hagerty, under their Mona Vista Productions banner. Sgt. Will Gardner sees Martini in the title role, an Iraq War veteran who suffers from PTSD and the lingering effects of a traumatic brain injury (TBI), which he sustained years earlier when he and his platoon, led by his fellow soldier and best friend, Tops, came under attack. Enduring painful flashbacks to his harrowing combat days and humiliating setbacks in the present, Will sets out on a spirited motorcycle journey across America in hopes of reconciling with his young son and former wife. Along the way, he encounters other veterans and a young woman who will push him to confront some of his most […]
Blockbuster director Michael Bay is tentatively off the radar from making alien robots fight each other in epic death duels. Still though, it’s in films like his latest, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi, that he continues to illuminate the best image of military might, and here and now through the conception of Chuck Hogan’s script based on the tumultous events that took place in Libya in 2012, and Mitchell Zuckoff’s subsequent book in 2014. There’s no question to the divisiveness of the source material here: An American ambassador was killed and it led to an endless inquiry by our Congress with little to zero results, thus spinning into a mainstream media frenzy between party lines. Guaranteed however, as effective as these films are, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi looks very appealing in cinematic form with a cast led by John Krazinski, James Badge Dale, Toby Stephens […]
