ASSAULT ON RIO BRAVO: Western Action Horror Casts Up For Spring Production

Joe Cornet’s new film, Assault On Rio Bravo, is casting up this week following announcements in January. The film, billed as an action-packed western with strong horror elements, is the latest project currently gaining traction for actor and producer Alexander Nevsky, who marks a reunion with several cohorts from his 2016 action ensemble, Showdown In Manila. The film is inspired by true events, centered on a band of warriors who, led by a mysterious foreigner, set out to protect a vulnerable bordertown from a notorious, bloodthirsty gang of outlaws en route to free their leader from prison. Fans of independent action cinema keen on following figures like stunt professionals Mitch Gould and Dan Southworth were rightly onto something since both appeared together in Isaac Florentine’s U.S. Seals 2: The Ultimate Force. HOLLOW POINT: Cameras Are Now Rolling For The New Daniel Zirilli Vigilante Thriller

Director Daniel Zirilli had been slowly hyping his latest project in recent weeks and now is officially in production in Los Angeles with action thriller, Hollow Point. Zirilli penned the script with writers Chad Law and Evan Law (The Shadow Effect, Hero Wanted), and reteams with actor Luke Goss (Blade 2, The Night Crew, Traffik) once more since the 2016 crime flick, Crossing Point. Hailing from producer Adel Nur at Halcyon Films, Hollow Point follows Goss in the role of Hank Cormac, a lawyer and charismatic vigilante who leads a team of crime fighters. Debut actor Dilan Jay stands front and center to the narrative as Nolan Cooray, a widowed family man failed by the legal system only to find himself reluctantly aligning with Cormac’s crew and waging war on the criminal underworld. Review: Asif Akbar’s ASTRO Alienates With Campy, Drab Sci-Fi

Filmmaker Asif Akbar’s debut arrives as a franchise hopeful in which we reunite once again with action star and actor Gary Daniels in the sci-fi thriller, Astro. It’s not Akbar’s first stab at the genre and so some of what he contributes here holds up in terms of select moments of visual allure and character design. It’s respite, though, and so what remains to be seen is if he can build on what he’s constructed with this film and improve the many flawed aspects that occur in his delivery. Many of the key CG shots are outright laughable in Akbar’s attempt to bring a vast, big scale science fiction film to serve as the backdrop of a Daniels-led vehicle, which bodes as only bodes as one of the more frustrating aspects offered in this hour-and-forty-five minute endeavor.
