I don’t know exactly when Jordan Peele boarded Dev Patel’s new action thriller, Monkey Man, for as long as I’ve been trying to keep up. It’s pretty damn suprising as well considering how low key news and updates have been in the last several years as production contended with regional and atmospheric hurdles, along with the pandemic that began in 2020. The good news though is that our collective patience is now being rewarded with news of Peele’s attachment via his Monkeypaw label alongside Thunder Road, Bron Studios, Minor Realm/S’Ya Concept, WME and Creative Wealth Media now breaking, along with an official trailer for Patel’s debut at the helm. MONKEY MAN: Netflix Scores Dev Patel’s Revenge-Driven Feature Directing Debut For 2022!

Actor Dev Patel’s directorial debut, Monkey Man, will bow on Netflix in 2022 for most of the world excluding select terrories with pre-existing deals, according to Deadline‘s Andreas Wiseman. The report comes following the film’s recent completion in Indonesia, as highlighted in a recent Instagram post by the film’s stunt team. Footage was also screened for buyers at last week’s EFM, wherein one individual described it as “John Wick in Mumbai”, according to Wiseman. The film’s action was spearheaded by stunt coordinator Udeh Nans (Beyond Skyline, The Queen Of Black Magic), with fight choreography by Brahim Chab (The Driver, Abduction). MONKEY MAN: Dev Patel’s Upcoming Revenge Thriller Wraps Principal Photography

Actor Dev Patel is currently tapped to appear in David Lowery’s The Green Knight this summer in the U.S. from A24. In the meantime, he’s also completed principal photography on Monkey Man, announced initially back in 2018. Production was reportedly slated for early last year in India, but since relocated to Indonesia due to the Covid-19 pandemic which rocked the world with some territories ramping up safety measures for film production. Cameras reportedly rolled in December, and following a sixty four-day shoot, completed principal photography this past week, according to several sources via recent posts on Twitter, as well as Instagram. AFM 2018: Dev Patel To Debut Direct His Next Starring Actioner, MONKEY MAN

Well this sounds exciting. Actor Dev Patel may have fallen short of his action star posterity with a certain live-action adaptation of a Nickleodeon IP, but that hasn’t hindered his favor since breaking through nearly a decade ago with Slumdog Millionaire. Nor does that change the fact that he’s a first-dan black belt in TaeKwonDo and if he’s been keeping up the craft, that ought to make him an action star contender in his own right. Indeed, the star of Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie and Garth Davis’ 2016 drama, Lion, is pivoting toward directing with his own debut, Monkey Man.
