Assassin Club arrives on Digital from May 16, and is available on DVD and Blu-Ray beginning June 6. It wasn’t that long ago when actor Henry Golding’s coming out party in the action cinema arena took the reins for Paramount Pictures as the name and face of the studio’s most recent stake in the G.I. Joe franchise for an origin story centered around the character, Snake Eyes. The movie had all the trimmings and maybe even the potential to be an outstanding film, or possibly more memorable than it has been for some who remain fond of its spirited efforts in some aspects, and instead, you’ll hardly hear a lingering whisper from action fans about the film – not exactly a flex if you’re Golding and you’re next stake in the genre is another film that proves to be just as mid. That’s where director Camille Delamarre comes in, having […]
The last twenty-four hours or so have finally seen some assets floating around for director Camille Delamarre’s new action thriller, Assassin Club, starring Henry Golding in his return to the action genre following Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. The film’s poster for its Romanian release was the first to be unveiled at some point along with a trailer you can now find online, although we now have a new, more English-oriented poster which Delamarre has shared on his social media page which you can check out just below. Delamarre directs from a script by Thomas Mann which, per the logline at IMDb, follows an assassin who “is given a contract to kill seven people around the world only to discover the targets are also assassins who have been hired to kill him.” The film also stars Daniela Melchior, Sam Neill and Noomi Rapace. Assassin Club also has release dates set […]
Actress Noomi Rapace continues to be one of Netflix’s best investments. The latest move to set the example here once more comes courtesy of director Adam Berg’s brooding, vast journey into the dark, icy tumult that is Black Crab, written by Adam Berg and Pelle Rådström and based on the work of author Jerker Virdborg. BLACK CRAB is a Swedish action thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by war. During a long, harsh winter, six soldiers embark on a covert mission across a frozen archipelago, risking their lives to transport a mysterious package that could end the war. As they enter hostile enemy territory, they have no idea what dangers lie ahead or who—if anyone—they can trust. But for speed skater turned soldier Caroline Edh, the mission is about something else entirely. Starring Noomi Rapace in a film directed by Adam Berg, BLACK CRAB follows six soldiers on a desperate mission […]
Considering the raft of titles Netflix has been housing with actress Noomi Rapace front and center, it does make sense that the streamer would eventually nab her most recent pairing with actor Askel Hennie for black home invasion comedy, The Trip. She rejoins director Tommy Wirkola who previously directed her on What Happened To Monday, a sci-fi actioner I really enjoyed and one that certainly put Rapace on my radar as a screen action talent who shouldn’t be looked over. Best of all is The Trip is just five days away from its launch as of this post, so check out the trailer from last week and set the date for October 15. Lars (Aksel Hennie) and Lisa (Noomi Rapace) have lost much of the love that brought them together in the first place. Now, they’re struggling to maintain their marriage, and their ambitions. Lars’ career as a director has […]
It’s safe to say that if Noomi Rapace hasn’t yet earned a place in your roster for action fandom and entertainment, you don’t deserve her. The star of the Millenium trilogy as well as actioners Bright and Close is already on deck for more thrills between now and next year, including having since reconvened with her What Happened To Monday? director Tommy Wirkola for their latest offering, The Trip (I Onde Dager). The film was announced back in September with XYZ Films financing the pic and launching sales out of the Toronto International Film Festival, with Nordisk Film Distribution handling its local release. It also stars Atle Antonsen, and headlines Rapace with actor Askel Hennie who last appeared with Ruby Rose and Jean Reno in Ryuhei Kitamura’s actioner, Doorman, and has Wirkola directing from a script he wrote with Nick Ball and John Niven. The film will follow a dysfunctional […]
Production is under way for Adam Berg’s new Swedish action thriller, Black Crab with Noomi Rapace leading the cast. Indio’s Malin Idevall and Mattias Montero are producing the film from a script by Berg and by Pelle Rådström, based on the novel of the same name by Jerker Virdborg. Black Crab is a Scandinavian action thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by climate change and war. During an endless winter, six soldiers are sent on a dangerous mission across the frozen sea to transport a package that could finally end the war. Equipped with weapons and ice skates, unaware of what they’re carrying, or who they can trust, the mission challenges their beliefs and forces them to ask: what are they willing to sacrifice for their own survival? Netflix, who are releasing the film in 2022, also unveiled a few cast photos which you can view in the […]
Noomi Rapace (Close, What Happened To Monday?) will star in Black Crab for Netflix. The streamer announced the casting a few days ago with award-winning director Adam Berg attached to make his feature directing debut, and plans for a 2022 release. Author Jerker Virdborg penned the original acclaimed novel which will serve as the basis for Berg’s script – set in “a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by climate change and war. During an endless winter, six soldiers are sent on a dangerous mission across the frozen sea to transport a package that could finally end the war. Equipped with ice skates, unaware of what they’re carrying, or who they can trust, the mission challenges their beliefs and forces them to ask: what are they willing to sacrifice for their own survival?” Black Crab marks Rapace’s big return to Scandinavia and her native country Sweden, after spending the last ten years […]
If you enjoyed the latest actress/director pairing on Netflix for Vicky Jewson’s Closer featuring Noomi Rapace, fret not. The two will be back together for Sylvia, which Jewson will pen with Close writer Rupert Whitaker tackling the 2010 biography, “Sylvia Rafael: The Life and Death of a Mossad Spy”, from author duo Ram Oren and Rafael’s former trainer, ex-Mossad agent Moti Kfir. Sylvia is based on the life of the Mossad’s most famous female agent, Sylvia Raphael Schjødt, following her rise to prominence within the Mossad and her intelligence work locating Ali Hassan Salameh — the leader of Palestine’s Black September organisation and the figure behind the murder of eleven Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. This mission would eventually lead to her involvement in the infamous Lillehammer affair. As Variety‘s Stewart Clarke reports, the “Lillehammer affair”, bookmarks the incident involving the death of an innocent Moroccan mistakenly […]
The last year and a half have seen great strides by Prometheus star Noomi Rapace whose latest stints in action cinema with thrillers like Unlocked and What Happened To Monday? are such worthy bookmarks. In that same time frame, fans have had plenty of time to maintain their fervor with the production of bodyguard thriller, Close, from director Vicky Jewson, and with a release date now slated for January 18, the official trailer now online is properly all the craze. Close, an adrenaline-pumping action thriller written and directed by Vicky Jewson (Born of War), is inspired by the life of the world’s leading female bodyguard, Jacquie Davis. The film stars Noomi Rapace as Sam, a counter-terrorist expert used to war zones, who takes on the job of protecting Zoe (Sophie Nélisse), a young and rich heiress — a babysitting job for her. But a violent attempted kidnapping forces the two […]
Leave it to Dead Snow and Dead Snow 2 helmer Tommy Wirkola to set the tone accordingly with a dystopian tale that centers actress Noomi Rapace right in the thick of it all. What Happened To Monday is set to premiere on August 18 on Netflix and with a full-fledged trailer in its wake as of a week ago which I’m only just now catching wind of. Set in a not so distant future (2073) burdened by overpopulation, with a global one child per family policy, seven identical sisters (portrayed by Noomi Rapace) live a cat-and-mouse existence pretending to be a single person to elude the Child Allocation Bureau. This was a delightful find and will surely bode as an alternative to viewers looking for an competitive alternative as it opens opposite new superhero series, The Defenders that day. What Happened To Monday joins Rapace with Willem Dafoe, Glenn Close, Robert […]

Bourne-style action sequences and storytelling have largely become a thing with male leads, namely actord Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner who are still currently charging their own titular films within the franchise. This week however, the genre is gearing toward a more female centric role in Unlocked, now underway in the U.K. with lead actress Noomi Rapace (Prometheus 1 & 2, Sherlock Holmes 2) starring. The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Enough (2002) helmer Michael Apted is directing the new film with a script by Peter O’Brien, which centers on the story of a CIA interrogator in a race against the clock to stop a biological attack on London soil.
