It was back in 2015 when Olivier Schneider hit my radar as the director of a then-pending screen adaptation of a 2010 crime novel. Things went quiet after that, but the career fight choreographer and stunt coordinator who’s worked on films like Taken, Safe House, Spectre, No Time To Die, and Fast X, was undoubtedly headed for a newer trajectory. That fact became clearer upon co-shepherding the limited mobile series, “Playground” a few years later, with only a handful of years before finally getting a stab in the director’s seat for a solo outing. Alas, we get GTMax, Schneider’s directorial debut on which he also collaborated with the film’s writers. Schneider’s debut kicks off with an adrenaline fueled motorcycle chase and the resultant getaway by a small gang of thieves after evading dauntless motorcycle cop Lucas (Thibault Evrard). The film then pivots viewers into the world of motorcross racing via […]
I’m pretty optimistic with Olivier Schneider. He’s accomplished aplenty in the stunt and fight arena and he’s got the resumé to prove it. So much so that he’s building a slate on which he can now craft himself as a filmmaker squarely in the director’s chair – the first of which now graces the interwebs with a look at GTMax, evidently Schneider’s directing debut now set to arrive on Netflix on November 20. Owners of a once-popular motocross circuit, the Carella family are now on the verge of bankruptcy. Terrified of getting back on a motorcycle since the death of her mother, former racer Soélie (Ava Baya) redoubles her determination to pull her family out of this crisis. Now a mechanic, she is particularly concerned about her brother Michael (Riadh Balaïche), who has fallen into dangerous company. To save him, Soélie is forced to modify TMAX scooters for Elyas (Jalil […]
Action steward Olivier Schneider is underway with The Orphans (a.k.a. Les Orphelins) as of just a few days ago, at that. Schneider is directing this, his second feature after completing upcoming Netflix actioner, GTMax. After a quarrel, Gab and Driss’s lives have taken different paths. Gab is a cop in Internal Affairs. He plays by the books. Driss is a fixer for the mob. He sells himself to the highest bidder. They are brought back together by the brutal death of Sofia, their childhood friend from the orphanage. Killed in a car accident, Sofia leaves behind Leïla, her 17-year-old daughter. Determined to find the killer, Leïla unknowingly tracks down the son of a ruthless businesswoman who relies on vicious henchmen to protect her family’s secrets. With no time to settle their personal scores, the two orphans must now join forces to find Leïla before she commits an irredeemable act. The […]
Industry stunt multihyphenate Olivier Schneider is on deck to direct the new crime thriller, Les Orphelins. Casting details remain pending on the film which was recently announced in French entertainment magazine, Écran Total. The film centers on two people who’ve come up on opposite sides of the law since their younger days at the orphanage. When they discover the murder of a childhood friend whose daughter sets out to avenge her, the two must put their differences aside in their quest for justice at any cost. Schneider is penning the script for the Inoxy Films production along with Nicolas Perfaillit (A Prophet, Soux X) and Alban Lenoir. Gaumont is handling international sales and will distribute the pic locally. Schneider is best known for his prolific stunt career dating back to 1996. Some of his recent credits as stunt coordinator and fight choreographer include Liam Nesson actioners Taken (2009) and Unknown […]
Action choreographer Olivier Schneider (Spectre) is one of those people truly worth keeping an eye on as yet another in the stunt and screenfighting field getting a footing in the directing field. He’s done so accordingly with Pascal Sid (Behind The Walls) in teaming up for the mobile exclusive action-packed series, Playground, French startup, Blackpills, has signed a deal with Vice where it is now available. Playground was created by Luc Besson and centers on Amy, a teenage girl who learns a horrible truth about her parents and soon finds herself swept into the Parisian underworld as an assassin in training. Variety exclusively unveiled the trailer below on Wednesday for the series which is produced by Paris-Based Together Media.

With today’s growing crop of second unit directors and prominent stunt coordinators like Gary Powell, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch seugueing into directing, its no wonder if whether or not that trend will continue. For this, we now look to stuntman and fight choreographer Olivier Schneider whose brutal, fast and hard hitting sequences can be seen most dominantly in movies like Furious 6, Taken, Safe House and French crime thriller Colt 45. As of this week, Schneider will be adding filmmaker to his resumé with his feature debut production adapting author Karine Giebel’s Flueve-Editions psychological crime novel, Meurtres Pour Rédemption (roughly translated as Killings For Redemption). The film, based on the 2010 publication, centers on Marianne, a 20 year old woman triggered by violence and a drug habit as her only means of escaping the hell she lives day to day within the prison walls, until one day she is […]
