ONE PIECE: Eiichiro Oda, Netflix Announce Season Two Development For Hit Live-Action Series Adaptation

Netflix is setting sail with a second season of its live-action treatment of hit series, One Piece. The show is the latest evolution based on the brainchild of manga and creator Eiichiro Oda who also serves as one of the show’s key exec producers, and who has undoubtedly been a prominent voice in helping steer the show’s first season eight-episode volley into fruition. Netflix took to its multiple platforms on social media and YouTube, with Oda taking up the megaphone via Transponder Snail, a key fixture within the series. ONE PIECE FILM: GOLD Returns to Theatres in Limited Engagement

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the film, Toei Animation and Fathom Events have announced a special collaboration for screenings of One Piece Film: Gold. First screened in the US in 2017, it will screen as a limited, two night engagement. On July 24, the film will be shown in English, while the Japanese language with English subtitles version will screen on July 26th. Both will include an exclusive, pre-show interview with the director of ONE PIECE FILM RED, Goro Taniguchi. Tickets are on sale now on the Fathom Events website. Watch the trailer of the film below! The upcoming live action adaption of Eiichiro Oda’s shonen powerhouse, One Piece, has been a hot topic in the anime community. After the (undeserved) negative reception of Cowboy Bebop, I’m honestly shocked that not only has this project proceeded, but that in a truly non-Hollywood fashion, the team behind the show has gone to great lengths to build confidence in the project. Arguably one of the biggest shonen products in the world, Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 1997, and has gained a strong and dedicated following, with the anime recently celebrating one thousand episodes! A story of pirates searching for lost treasure in a world full of strange creatures and cursed fruit, the beloved series is being adapted to live-action by Netflix, and has already confirmed casting for the core group of Straw Hat Pirates. Further casting details for supporting cast have been announced recently, and most of them seek to oppose Luffy and the Straw Hats in their quest. There has been a lot of talk surrounding the upcoming adaption of Eiichiro Oda’s worldwide smash hit One Piece by Netflix. Fresh in the minds of many is the narrative surrounding previous Netflix attempts at adaption, including the recent Cowboy Bebop (you never gave it a chance, internet, and you know it) and Death Note (this one I get a bit more), so to say there is some skepticism is putting it mildly. A ten-episode live-action rendition of One Piece found a new home at Netflix on Wednesday according to trade news and a press announcement from the streamer. The news comes following word that broke in July of 2017 that a live-action series was in the works from Shueisha, and Marty Adelstein’s Tomorrow Studios, the same company involved with the current serial production of Cowboy Bebop – also for the streamer. A multitude of adventures outline One Piece which took off as a hit manga beginning in 1997. The franchise expanded itself greatly into television and original video animes with its story centered on Monkey D. Luffy and his epic, action-packed and sprawling quest to find said ‘piece’ and claim the title of “King Of The Pirates”. Trigger The past few years have grown on me as I’ve tried to consume as much programmimg as possible with my return to anime, especially in the wake of so many live action adaptation. Shows like Keijo, Death Parade, Samurai Champloo, Ajin, Hunter X Hunter, RWBY and Kurumanda Masami’s 1986 classic, Saint Seiya: Sanctuary, have all been okay to pass the time with, but I’ve grown into several favorites along the way. Kill La Kill, hailed from the director of Gurren Lagann, comes first among the bunch as one of the more memorable ones for me. Aside from its seemingly trashy narrative are deeper messages with respect to clothing and the act of militarial assimilation, all that stemming from the story of a vengeful school girl-turned-reluctant savior of the world when she becomes imbued with powers on behalf of a school girl outfit manufactured from an alien thread. It was a little over a year ago that a Japanese live-action adaptation of manga author Oda Eiichiro’s longstanding Shueisha Inc. publication and anime IP, One Piece, was announced for its own live-action movie. I’m not certain if that project is still moving forward but I’ll be sure to spread the word if I hear anything else, although considering recent movement over at Marty Adelstein’s Tomorrow Studios, I reckon it won’t be any time soon. Oda’s ONE PIECE Sets The Course For Live-Action Movie, First Casting Announced

As of today, the fascination of turning anime and manga properties can now extend to author Oda Eiichiro’s popular work, One Piece. Of course, this mark yet another addition to my own anime absorption homework this year, but an official announcement was just published solidifying its first two leads, with actor Kubota Masataka fresh off the success of Japan’s Hulu Hit series, HiGH&LOW and it’s forthcoming film next month. Also set to star is Chinese pop idol Xie Leilei of GNZ48 which might be a peculiar casting choice for critics observant of this kind of thing…I’m not sure. At any rate, Kubota as the choice to play elastic adventurer and aspiring Pirate King, Monkey D. I don’t know if there are plans to take author Eiichiro Oda’s highly popular manga, One Piece and amp it up to a live-action theatrical telling since Universal Studios Japan launched a live-stage show version this year. At any rate though, the manga has seen its way to the screen via original video anime and other installations of the manga, all of which have drawn a considerably large fan base. Of course, that could only mean inspiration for artists within the fan community, including the folks over at Woonsa Studios in their latest collaboration with Korean martial arts sports team, K-Tigers featuring two of its members, Kang Min and Hyung Kyun as Luffy and Sanji, and a special animated appearance by Tony Tony Chopper at the end.
