6 min. read It’s been a while since I had my eyes on films like Only The Strong, any of The Substitute films, or 80s romps like 3 O’Clock High and Lean On Me. Those are precisely the kinds of films you watch if you’re into stories of protagonists tackling insurmountable circumstances on school campus involving students, teen bullies and other criminal elements, and even films like Donnie Yen’s Big Brother and Ryoo Seung-wan’s Veteran measure up here. Suffice it to say, this is where director Park Jin-pyo gets to test the waters with Brave Citizen, adapted for the screen and based on Kim Jung-hyun’s 2014 webtoon. Variety’s Patrick Frater has a look at Brave Citizen, the latest film from director Park Jin-pyo (Voice Of A Murderer, You Are My Sunshine). Finecut is launching worldwide sales on the sidelines of this year’s film festivities at Busan, with OTT streaming service Content Wavve presenting the film ahead of its 2023 theatrical release. Starring Shin Hye-sun (Collectors) and Lee Jun-young (Love And Leashes), Brave Citizen centers on a former prospective boxer who has since set her sights on being a tenured high school teacher, ignoring troubling situations as often as possible. The logline continues as follows according to Frater: “Having witnessed intolerable violence, she dons a mask and throws her first punch for justice.” Brave Citizen is based on Kim Jung-hyun’s 2014 webtoon publication via Comico and Naver and adapted for the screen by Yeo Ji-na and Hyun Chung-yeol. The film is produced by StudioN with music by Dalpalan […]
