Lu Yang's Wuxia Thriller, BROTHERHOOD OF BLADES, Moves Forward With A Prequel

Writer and director Lu Yang‘s summer 2014 period actioner, Brotherhood Of Blades, didn’t exactly get a lot of press leading up to its theatrical release. Fortunately, the film did manage to muster some critical and commerical acclaim, and thankfully, that won’t be all we hear. John Woo cohort Terence Chang produced the film along with Wang Donghui, Ling Hong, with a script co-written by Chen Shu set in seventeenth-century China where three sworn brothers-imperial soldiers Lu, Shen Lian, and Yichuan who are tasked by their new Emperor to hunt down an allegedly corrupt eunich, only to find themselves at the center of an unyielding conspiracy with danger at every turn. Watch The New Trailer Reveal For APPLESEED ALPHA

Following a batch of announcements within the past several months regarding the release of a new Appleseed movie, the latest trailer reveal has arrived for director Shinji Aramaki‘s new CG-animated action adventure thriller, Appleseed Alpha, courtesy of IGN. Produced by Halo: Legends helmer Joseph Chou, the film is the latest cinematic contribution to the franchise based on author Masamune Shirow’s 1985 cyberpunk manga publication, and will also serve as a prequel to the 2004 film, Appleseed, rebooting the story of female soldier Deunan, and her cyborg partner Briareos as they search for the city of Olympus. The film will receive a DVD/Blu-Ray release on July 22, with a digital release planned for July 15, courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. H/T: Keith Hayward

Tony Jaa Is A Uniformed Hero In A New Set Pic For SPL2

Action hero Tony Jaa took to Facebook on Thursday to unveil the latest costume try-on ahead of rehearsals for the forthcoming production of The Monkey King helmer Pou Soi-Cheang‘s latest film, SPL 2, the long-awaited follow-up to the 2004 crime thriller which starred Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung. Jaa‘s participation in the film was finally confirmed in recent months after a few years of speculation went by. Check out the photo below with the enclosed caption. “Costume and Rehearsal Time for SPL II. This is going to be a lot of fun. Great cast and great crew. Crave hosted a brand new animated prequel shortfilm this week titled 47 Ronin: The Way Of The Warrior. The shortfilm comes as movie goers are less than two weeks away from the premiere of the forthcoming feature length samurai epic, 47 Ronin. The film opened to some less-than-impressive numbers upon its premiere in Japan last week. But with any luck, things will change when it arrives in North America on December 25, 2014.
