Ariel Vroman Tapped To Helm RAMBO: NEW BLOOD Reboot Vehicle For Nu Image/Millenium Films

Action star and actor Sylvester Stallone made it pretty clear at the top of 2016 that he was cinematically done with anything and everything Rambo-related. That news came following a updates in December of last year that the action movie legend would have nothing to do with the forthcoming TV series at Fox. Even so, none of this is stopping the folks at NuImage/Millenium from advancing their efforts to keep the character alive, and they’re officially at work developing a younger iteration of the character. Action star and actor Sylvester Stallone is not mincing words after this week. The 69 year old action hero is officially retiring from the role of Rambo according to a new interview with Variety “The heart’s willing, but the body says, ‘Stay home!,’” says Stallone. “It’s like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else.” The character, based David Morell’s 1972 novel, “First Blood”, spawned four films with Stallone in the title role between 1982 and 2008, with the latter, Rambo, reinvigorating an already decades-hardened fanbase of R-rated action cinema. “You know when you realize there’s nothing more to pull out?” said the actor. “As an action film, I was very satisfied that it dealt with the Burmese situation. It took a while to confirm but at least we know now that actor Sylvester Stallone is officially not attached to Fox’s new efforts to develop a TV series inspired by the Rambo movie franchise. Deadline reports as of Monday that Stallone, who was last said to possibly repirise role in Rambo: New Blood, is stepping back from the project entirely, but wishing its team well in the process. The show would have focused on Rambo’s iconic character, spawned from David Morell’s 1972 novel and the film series that followed through 2008, and his relationship with his son, J.R., an ex-Navy seal. The Fugitive and Die Hard scribe Jeb Stuart is tapped to pen the series with eOne and Millenium advancing the series while the long-awaited “No Country For Old Men-toned” Rambo V remains in limbo. Seven years after the 2008 film, Rambo, reinvigorated fans of the classic action franchise led by actor Sylvester Stallone, Deadline is now reporting that the languishing fifth film that’s been in developement for some time now is indefinitely on hold. Instead, eOne will be internationally representing the developement of a TV series that’s also been long in the works in the last few years and will produce along with Millenium Films. Stallone’s name is being circulated as the likely prospect of the new show titled Rambo: New Blood, marking a possible return to the character alongside an actor who will play ex-Navy SEAL, J.R., Rambo’s son.
