On 17th January the Martial Arts action legend Jackie Chan’s final outing in an action comedy film “Panda Plan” hits cinemas in the UK. I was honoured to be invited to the UK Premiere at the Vue West End and here is what I thought of JC’s last dance in action comedy. The film starts out with a bang indulging us with high tempo action sequences which leave you with hopeful thoughts for the remainder of the film. However, your bubble is burst when it is revealed this is just a movie set and Jackie is playing another re- incarnation of himself in the film. The plot is quickly explained in that he is adopting a social media famous Panda, however a rich Arab has other plans and enlists a group of mercenaries to capture the Panda for his own gains. Jackie arrives at the Zoo and has the opportunity to […]
After a successful run through several festivals, Florida´s based independent film company, Raised on Media, finally has released the first invitation to enter into the depraved world of Ringling city, to tell the story of Rachael, a local girl who´s given 7 days to make a life altering decision. A decision that could lead to a path of violence with unforeseen consequences. Director Jared Miller shows the first glances on this initial chapter to a growing crime saga universe, where we´re lured to visit a dangerous city ruled by depravation, in company of a desperate girl (stunning performance by Hana Young) who finds on imbalance the only way to balance her messy existence in a filthy city that doesn´t even offer a first choice on taking the right path. “Lollipop” is an atracting short film with blowing personality that fills the screen with an urban neon´s style aesthetic that mixes […]
At the end of the Warring States period, seven states fought for dominance. The nobles from each state sent brave warriors to duel in the Tiger Arena to resolve various disputes. The warrior from Wei was the minister of war and gained his reputation for defending his country against invaders. However, after he is framed and the country falls in ruin, he picks up with weapons and armor to fight again. Have you ever wondered what happened with with that badass little kid that kicked ass playing Jet Li´s son in Corey Yuen´s action flick, “My Father is a hero”? (1995) Well, his name is Miu Tse, and he´s a grown up now that has become by his own right in an action star in the vast and wide chinese market where he has starred in more than 30 films until the date. Assasin Legend is a thrilling tale of […]
The last six years have been some of the more eventful for German stunt trio Can Aydin, Phong Giang and Yoon Cha-Lee. Working and operating under their Reel Deal Action banner, the compilation of independent projects they’ve done next to the numerous stunt credits they share on major studio titles are a testament to become something much more than a run-of-the-mill indie label. 20th Century Fox’s 2017 German theatrical release of Plan B: Scheiss Auf Plan A, for all intents and purposes, was a cornerstone of their progress in attempting to bring genuine acting and screenfighting talent to the big screen for martial arts action fans. The genre still tends to prove difficult to take, however, but that doesn’t change the fact that a film like Plan B has an audience, and for that matter, our aforementioned trio of burgeoning action stars. That knowledge is also shared by James Mark, […]
I have to credit my latest interview subject, actor and rising star José Manuel, whose own career progression has been much more mobile than I imagined over the past several years. At some point back then, it appears his journey landed him somewhere in Wisconsin and in the throes of writing/directing duo, actors Jarrod Crooks and Greg Kuper, leaving in their wake what I think is one of the most discernible odes to cinema and the love of cinema to date. Indie Guys presents a hilarious, healthy and hearty mix of mumblecore comedy and drama at the forefront of our tale telling of local indie filmmakers Ian (Crooks) and Gordon (Kuper) as they struggle to complete their newest and most ambitious action movie with only a skeleton crew and, much to their chagrin, no money. From bizzare auditions and casting near-complete strangers at the last minute to creative differences that threaten […]
