BEN & JODY Review: Sasongko’s Latest Dramatic Brew Serves Hard-Hitting Thrills
Streaming isn’t without its share of controversy, although it really depends on the platform in terms of what kinds of titles are given wider releases outside their respective regions. With Netflix, it certainly helps that they’ve placed Indonesia under their radar and have met the demand accordingly with such releases like Ben & Jody, the new feature to hit the streamer from recurring director Angga Dwimas Sasongko. The film is the third latest entry of the Filosofi Kopi franchise created by Dee Lestari, and dating back to 2015, with two movies and two miniseries in its wake. BEN & JODY: Wake Up And Smell The Action And Drama Brewing In The Official Teaser
Leading the way from its heyday as a celebrated short story by Dewi Lestari, to a heralded film franchise and webseries, director Angga D. Sasongko has returned with a third outing in the Filosofi Kopi saga. Titled Ben & Jody from Visinema Pictures, actors Chicco Jericho and Rio Dewanto reprise their respective titles roles, continuing the saga that began as an award-winning tale of two struggling coffeeshop owners. Things have definitely changed since the 2015 story, with a script written by Sasongko and co-scribe M. Nurman Wardi, which now sees the two formerly-partnered baristas facing dangerous odds when Ben’s (Jericho) venture into farming activism sees him tackling gangs of illegal loggers, led by Tubir, played by none other than contemporary action legend Yayan Ruhian. Mario Kassar’s FOXTROT SIX Locks And Loads With An Intense First Teaser
Heralded Hollywood exec producer Mario Kassar’s recent exploits in Southeast Asia are no longer a visual mystery with the first teaser footage now running for forthcoming sci-fi action thriller, Foxtrot Six. The film marks Randy Korompis’ directorial debut, and it’s a pretty sizeable one for a film of its kind it its own region, backed by a budget of up to ten million (last we heard) and slated to be the first of hopefully several initial Hollywood-style blockbuster Southeast Asia productions in recent memory.
