Jon Landau took to a live Q&A panel with actress Rosa Salazar, James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez for a discussion on upcoming manga adaptation, Alita: Battle Angel. Hosted by 20th Century Fox, and much to our delight however, the studio didn’t make fans wait too long as they presented the newest official trailer at the top of the live video ahead of the film’s December 21 release. Rodriguez adapted the film from manga creator Kishiro Yukito’s 1990 manga telling of a discarded, unique cyborg reborn with a new body and purpose as she sets out to discover who she is. I just spent all afternoon trying really hard to understand why Alita: Battle Angel looks the way it does now…And I can’t. Rodriguez’s ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Casts Rosa Salazar To Star

Late last year saw news that James Cameron and Lightstorm partner Jon Landau would produce an adaptation of Kishiro Yukito’s hit manga, Alita: Battle Angel, with Robert Rodriguez directing. Since then, the film had not been greenlit while an actress was still being sought after, including Maika Monroe, Disney Channel favorite Zendaya, and Rosa Salazar. That was a few months ago, and now the word from THR is that Salazar, best known for her recent roles in The Divergent Series: Insurgent and The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, has been cast to star. Inspired by Kishiro’s 1990-1995 Shueisha manga, Salazar will play Alita, an amnesiac cyborg whose head is found by a scientist in a scrapyard in a dystopian future America, and refurbished as a battle-capable cyborg huntress named after the scientist’s cat.
