A Family director Michihito Fujii is now the subject of another pending release with his latest dark drama thriller, The Village. Fujii directs a cast led by Ryusei Yokohama (upcoming One Last Bloom), and Fujii’s The Last 10 Years actress Haru Kuroki. This unusual suspense story reflects the darkness of modern society onto the isolated world of a “village.” Set in the small Japanese hamlet of Kamon Village, this story depicts the reality of its inhabitants who are unable to live with their hands completely clean. This film brims with the ills facing modern Japanese society, including environmental issues, the poverty of young people in depopulated villages, expanding society inequalities and a warped social structure that makes it impossible to recover after going astray even once. Starring Ryusei Yokohama, this unprecedented human drama fuses entertainment with real issues plaguing Japanese society. Kadokawa and Star Sands released the film in Japan […]

A few seasons away from the ceremonial reception of last year’s WWII romantic drama, Fragments Of The Last Will, it’ll be much later this year when director Takahisa Zeze returns to the masses as he readies Falling In Spring, otherwise known as Harui ni Chiru as noted via the original title of Kotaro Sawaki’s 2017 novel. Zeze takes the reins here with a cast led by Koichi Sato and Usogui star Ryusei Yokohama who star as a veteran boxing trainer and his pugilistic protégé. That’s it. That’s about all we know from what’s been offered by the heads at Gaga Corporation other than the following bit, translated. The two decided to live only for the “moment”. Also starring are Kanna Hashimoto and Masataka Kubota and more for the film’s August 25 release, and with that, peep the teaser!
It’s been five years since a live-action adaptation was announced bringing Toshio Sako’s longstanding manga, Usogui, to the big screen. For those otherwise keeping score, fans looking forward to the pic hailing from Warner Bros. Japan got their first glimpse of what it will look like with actor Ryusei Yokohama (Your Eyes Tell) front and center of some serious John Wick: Chapter Two vibes. So what’s the big deal here for the latest from director Hideo Nakata (Ring franchise, Sadako)? Well, the story follows Yokohama in the role of Baku Madarame – a.k.a. The Lie Eater – a mysterious gambler dispensing his own brand of justice against dishonest players, who takes his trade to the underworld’s top illegal gambling den, Club Kakerou, and you can definitely guess there’s more to the story if the poster below any clue. I’m looking forward to a teaser very soon for this one!
