Director Andrew Thomas Hunt talks chainsaws, fight scenes, & his new film SPARE PARTS

Andrew Thomas Hunt has played a large part in the growing number of interesting, strange, macabre, or just plain fun genre films that have been hitting the international film scene from Canada for the better part of the past decade. He is one of the founding members of “Raven Banner”, a Canadian film group that produces and releases genre films of all types, both theatrically and to home mediums. Some of the films they have sent out into the world include TURBO KID, WOLFMAN’S GOT NARDS, DEATHGASM, and (most recently) PG: PYSCHO GOREMAN. SPARE PARTS Review: The Sum Of All Its Parts, Covered In R-Rated Gratuity And Glee

The first time I saw the trailer for Andrew Hunt’s new film, Spare Parts, gave me several kinds of feels and flashbacks. Without question, I can certainly attest that fans of this genre will take a liking to what the longtime executive producer (Deeper: The Retribution Of Beth, Avenged, SuperGrid, Lifechanger, For The Sake Of Vicious) delivers in his second and only film in the last twelve years. Returning to female empowerment narratives once more, Hunt, joined by screenwriters David Murdoch and Sven Rouskov, introduces the story of traveling road musicians, sisters Amy (Michelle Argyris) and Emma (Emily Alatalo), and romantically-involved bandmates Cassy (Kiriana Stanton) and Jill (Chelsea Muirhead). This trailer is something else… and pardon the Mad Max pun. My friend Joey uses it often. I definitely got echoes of Noboru Iguchi here with Sweet Karma director Andrew T. Hunt’s new film, Spare Parts. The pitch here roars with outlandish gore, explosive action and dystopian, escapist extravagance with what looks to be some thrilling performances by Michelle Argyris, Emily Alatalo, Kiriana Stanton and Chelsea Muirhead, and actor Julian Richings. In a godforsaken bar in the middle of nowhere – an all-girl punk band, Ms. 45, rip the stage apart with their punk spirit. Their performance impresses an enthusiastic fan who lures the girls into a trap, sedates them and starts… customizing them.
