Steven S. DeKnight Is Bringing Back SPARTACUS At STARZ

Nearly ten years since its brutal and bloody culmination, Spartacus TV shepherd Steven S. DeKnight is bringing back the blood-drenched sword-and-sandal fanfare for STARZ according to a press release on Thursday. DeKnight, whose post-Spartacus adventures partly saw him crafting Marvel’s Daredevil for Netflix and directing Pacific Rim: Uprising, will return to serve as showrunner and executive producer on a new sequel series which will “explore uncharted territory and new journeys of the original series’ iconic characters. More on the show: In the aftermath of the defeat of Spartacus and his rebel army, the drama will depict a new tale of treachery, deceit, and blood unfolding beneath the foreboding shadow of Rome. In the meantime, the network just dropped the official trailer which you can view above. Lionsgate TV produced the series for STARZ in association with Paramount Television Studios. “Heels” is a story about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small town pro wrestling. With the fourth chapter of Lionsgate’s John Wick saga now filming and franchise co-star Ian McShane back on board as of Thursday for the role of Winston, all eyes of Wick fans are now on news that Good Lord Bird helmer and The Book Of Eli co-director Albert Hughes, will direct the first and third episodes of The Continental, a three-night event limited series which Hughes will also executive produce for Lionsgate and Starz. A prequel spinoff, Continental is set 40 years before the events of the Wick series and focuses on a young man named Winston. He will one day grow up to be the character played by Ian McShane in the Wick movies but in the prequel’s story is a young man starting as a hitman hotelier who, along with others, create a haven for unsavory types, all set against a backdrop of 1970s New York. Common’s BLACK SAMURAI Series Lands At STARZ

It was last June that actor Common (John Wick: Chapter Two, AMC’s Hell On Wheels) and producer/filmmaker RZA were pairing up with Wu Films to advance their own take on Marc Olden’s 1974 novel, Black Samurai. As such, with enough time and effort comes per the succession of milestones, now with word that the show has officially landed at Starz according to trade news broken on Tuesday. RZA and Jerry Bruckheimer will executive produce the series which succeeds Al Adamson’s 1977 Jim Kelly-headlining adaptation of Olden’s book. The series will see Common in the role of Robert Sand, a former soldier belaguered by racism, and raised and trained in the samurai arts for seven years by the master who rescued him, only to walk the path of vengeance and self-discovery when he learns of his master’s death and that of his beloved samurai brothers. Lionsgate’s THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ASCENDANT Finds New Life At Starz For TV Drama Developement

2014 was supposed to be the start of a new theatrical sci-fi action film saga with the release of Neil Burger’s Divergent after Summit Entertainment acquired the rights for bestselling author Veronica Roth’s book series in 2011. The film was a Springtime hit which did wonders for the Lionsgate while the sequel, Robert Schwentke’s The Divergent Series: Insurgent, did amply well despite not besting its predecessor the following year. Schwentke returned to the helm for what should have been the third of a four-film series, directing The Divergent Series: Allegiant and ultimately showing a downward trend at the box office for the celebrated YA property. Lionsgate went into brainstorming mode in its autopsy of the film’s lackluster performance and subsequently decided to shelve the film indefinitely in exchange for a potential continuation of the sci-fi saga on the small screen. Actress Olga Kurylenko certainly has a screen presence about her worthy of an action role – the best case so far being that opposite Daniel Craig in Quantum Of Solace. Shes does pretty well for herself in that regard and now her latest, Momentum, is finally on the way to a release in the U.S. following its acquisition by Starz Digital back in July. SYNOPSIS: After being unmasked during a heist, an infiltration expert (Olga Kurylenko) finds herself mixed up in a conspiracy and deadly game of cat-and-mouse with a master assassin (James Purefoy). I’m not a huge horror fanatic, but lately I’m being given a few things to catch up on, and apparently watching director Sam Raimi‘s 1981 cult horror hit, The Evil Dead and his 1987 sequel, both starring actor Bruce Campbell, are a few to put on my to-see list. Starz network just greenlit a sequel television series to these films which garnered both critical and commercial acclaim in their heyday prior to the 2013 reboot, and the company issued a press release on Monday as part of their official announcement. NORTHMEN: A VIKING SAGA Sets Sail For North America

Director Claudio Fäh‘s action-packed period epic, Northmen: A Viking Saga is currently enduring a theatrical run through Europe, introducing a harrowing tale of survival about a group of maurauders who must survive their way through to a Viking settlement after getting shipwrecked off the coast of Scotland. The film itself has some mixed reviews although the trailers themselves divulge plenty their fair share of epic viking brutality and danger which ought to woo anyone who loves a good sword-swinger of a thriller. Alas, moviegoers who love a little Norse action period storytelling may get their wish when the film is finally gets released in North America after landing a new home at Starz, according to Deadline.
