THE DARK TOWER Officially Casts Idris Elba And Matthew McConaughey
With renouned author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower book series taking shape at Sony and MRC, King himself confirmed a la Twitter, actors Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey as the first to be cast for the new film as post-apocalyptic gun slinger. The two were initially up for roles in the film since late 2015 with Nikolas Arcej attached to direct. Adapted for the screen by Arcej along with Anders Thomas Jensen, executive producer Jeff Pinker and producer Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road, Elba and McConaughey will portray the respective roles of post-apocalyptic gun-slinger Roland Deschain, and the villainous man in black. The film is based on King’s popular book series which began with the 1982 publication, “The Gunslinger”, offsetting eight books and several comic book installments that take its inspirational cues from the works of authors Robert Browning and J.R.R.
