Lucky McKee has been one of the largely unsung heroes of horror cinema, for around 2 decades now. From his debut feature, “May” to his more recent work, “Old Man”, McKee has proven himself time and time again as one of the best filmmakers today at making truly interesting character pieces. With “Old Man”, McKee takes on a film that feels more akin to experimental theater than most films ever attempt. Taking place almost completely in a single location with only two major characters, “Old Man” seems like a film that would be extremely difficult to make work as a full-length feature. However, thanks to the efforts of McKee and his two leads, Marc Senter (who also co-produces) and Stephen Lang– not only does it work as a full-length feature, “Old Man” is an incredibly compelling piece of cinema. At times very funny, sometimes touching, but consistently it’s a tense […]
Fans following actor Johnny Yong Bosch’s social media posts in recent weeks probably took notice of some set photos from a film production that just wrapped. News as of Monday confirms just that, with details on Hellfire, reuniting Bosch with seasoned Power Rangers franchise vet, Undisputed franchise director Isaac Florentine and starring Stephen Lang (Avatar, V.F.W.) in the lead role. According to Deadline’s Valerie Complex, the film was written by Richard Lowry and centers on ” a mysterious past who arrives in a small town and finds the residents in the grip of a ruthless crime boss and realizes he has to help them.” The film also stars Harvey Keitel and Dolph Lundgren, in addition to Bosch and co-stars Scottie Thompson, Michael Sirow, Chris Mullinax, Maurice Compte, Levon Panek, and Natalie Canerday. Bosch previously worked with Florentine on several installments of the Power Rangers franchise. The famed action director also […]

As he investigates the shooter’s identity, he uncovers a vast conspiracy that has a chokehold on the city in this thrilling journey through the tangled streets of Los Angeles and the corrupt bureaucracy of the LAPD. L.A.-based Highland Film Group is co-financing the thriller and is handling worldwide sales rights, with cameras set to roll this summer. If you enjoyed Fede Alvarez’s Don’t Breathe, the upcoming sequel by the first film’s co-writer, Rodo Sayagues, has you covered. Sony Pictures just unveiled its Dark AF Restricted trailer which you can otherwise click here to check out in case it doesn’t appear above… particularly seeing how Dark AF it is. Oof! The sequel is set in the years following the initial deadly home invasion, where Norman Nordstrom (Stephen Lang) lives in quiet solace until his past sins catch up to him. Also starring are Madelyn Grace and Brendan Sexton III for the film’s August 13 release.
Seven years since his 2013 feature, Almost Human, it is safe to say filmmaker Joe Begos is having a pretty good run these days. The attention he’s drawn after last year’s Tribeca Film Festival world premiere of Bliss is hugely deserved, and all for the better as RLJE Films looks to roll out his most recent success, VFW. Penned by Max Brallier and Matthew McArdle in their feature scripting debut, Begos’ VFW presents an immersive, heavily contoured, gritty and dark rollercoaster into a nightmaring, decadent suburbia, where for a vengeful young woman standing against a seemingly unstoppable evil, old soldiers are all that’s in a rural town without heroes or hope. America is a lawless, opioid-addicted and near-apocalyptic version of itself, topped by the explosive popularity of a new powdered stimulant known as ‘Hype’. The new drug is all there is to live for, including for the insatiable residents within […]
Director Joe Begos had a hit on his hands this year with the release his illustrious and vampiric horror noir, Bliss. He’s since been on the trail and keeping busy with one other peculiar looking thriller in V.F.W., which casts a hard-edged roster of actors including Stephen Lang (Don’t Breathe), Martin Kove (YouTube’s Cobra Kai), Fred Williamson (From Dusk Til Dawn) and William Sadler (Die Hard 2: Die Harder) among others for its line-up. THE WILD BUNCH meets NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, the film follows Fred and his military buddies as they must defend their local V.F.W. (Veterans of Foreign Wars) post – and an innocent teen – against a deranged drug dealer and his relentless army of punk mutants. These Vietnam vets have been to hell and back, but this will be the longest night of their lives. EW presented the official trailer on Tuesday with statements from […]
Close to thirty years in his professional stunt career with just a few directing notches on his belt, it was last year that stunt coordinator Mike Gunther set out to shepherd Rogue Warfare in what is expected to be the first in a series of films. Produced in-house via Gunther’s 5150 Action Productions, Rogue Warfare centers on a team of elite spec-ops soliders assembled from around the world to take down the world’s most dangerous terrorist organization, The Black Mask. Stephen Lang leads the cast which also fronts Will Yun-Lee, Chris Mulkey, Rory Markham, Katie Keene and Fernando Chien. Early market buzz did push for a March release but with Saban Films’ acquisition, viewers can set the date for October 4 in theaters, digital and on VOD. Hat tip to Rebecca Elliott a.k.a. Annette Kellerman for her exclusive at Ain’t It Cool News.
It’ll be worth seeing how international film star Daniel Wu’s film career plays out with director Roar Uthaug’s forthcoming Tomb Raider reboot. At the same time, it’ll be even more fun and interesting to see where he goes on the television end with his current run in the epic AMC martial arts action series, Into The Badlands, when it returns on March 19, 2017 at 10:00pm Eastern & Pacific. Into the Badlands Season 2 finds Sunny (Daniel Wu) and M.K. (Aramis Knight) separated and scattered to the wind, each imprisoned in unlikely places. While M.K. struggles to control his powers, Sunny is determined to fight his way back into the Badlands to find his family or die trying. On their journey, Clipper and Colt are assisted by mysterious, new allies whose motivations may be anything but pure. Meanwhile, The Widow (Emily Beecham) continues to consolidate power against the other Barons, […]
Director Allan Ungar first impressed me with his 2014 mixed-martial arts revenge drama, Tapped Out. The film put actor and martial artist Cody Hackman on the radar for a lot of us action fans while the star continued to make strides in film under his Hackybox Pictures banner, and now we continue onward with Hackman next to actor Dominic Purcell in an albeit delightful pairing in Ungar’s newest, Gridlocked. From jump, Ungar, who wrote the film with co-scribe Rob Robol, minces no images in the first several minutes while clarifying this is going to be an action picture, from shots of bad guys locking and loading during the opening sequence, to meeting our protagonist, Purcell, in the role of David, a peppered, worn and tough New York detective who’s seen the business end of a gun more times than several. And in the middle of it all: Hackman starring as […]
Fallout from SXSW appears to be benefitting filmmaker Fede Alvarez some with feedback circulating on his latest premiere, Don’t Breathe. Screencrush‘s own observation lends a notable comparison for Stephen Lang’s character to that of Rutger Hauer in the 1989 thriller, Blind Fury, among others, which caught my eye in tracking this particular title, not being able to attend SXSW and all. That said, I’m intrigued by this movie already and its latest poster makes it even more official. Sony Pictures is releasing the film in August and they have more details in Tuesday’s announcement just beneath. LOS ANGELES, March 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Pictures, in association with Ghost House Pictures, announced the title today for their upcoming (previously untitled) Fede Alvarez thriller: DON’T BREATHE. The film had its world premiere at SXSW in Austin over the weekend to a packed house as part of the Midnighters series at the […]
The Grey (2004) and Provinces Of The Night (2010) helmer Shane Dax Taylor is looking to leave a mark starting this weekend with fellow scribe Chad Law for director Isaac Florentine’s new movie, Close Range. In the meantime, the two are currently leaving an impression with Taylor‘s latest and third feature work, Isolation, which recently wrapped things up last month at the Austin Film Festival. Law’s script centers on Luke Mably and Tricia Helfer who play a happy couple looking for an exotic getaway in the Bahamas – that is until their new, albeit menacing neighbors threaten to turn their vacation in paradise into nothing short of a seething nightmare. Those neighbors happen to be actress Marie Avgeropolous and powerhouse actors Dominc Purcell and Stephen Lang. Law and Taylor have more in store going into 2016 while Isolation plots a release in June courtesy of Alchemy. Check out the most recent […]
It’s been ten years since award-winning director James Cameron began his journey into the world of Pandora for the production of his 2009 milestone success story, Avatar. With time on his side and the technological advancements in film pending, it was only a matter of time the filmmaker would soon reap the benefits of such filmmaking and entertainment innovations, from motion capture and 3D technology, to the implementation of 4D entertainment in select theaters worldwide. Evidently, the film was a record-breaking box-office victory for Cameron and the distributors at 20th Century Fox, earning well-over $2.7 billion dollars between 2009, and its re-release in 2010, and ultimately becoming the highest grossing film to date. Moreover, on top of its Academy Award, Golden Globe, Saturn Awards and BAFTA accolades, the film drew mostly positive reviews for its environmentally-centric and anti-war message on top of its emotionally-charged delivery, packed with explosive visual spectacle […]
Mixed martial arts sensation and action actress Gina Carano (Fast And Furious 6, In The Blood) is still up for a possible role in the new sci-fi actioner, The Opium War, as per an announcement earlier this year. This week however, production for the film which was once slated sometime between July and September has been pushed back to November according to a new report from Syracuse. The film is being directed by Justin Steele from a script by Jeremy J. Levy and would join Carano with actor Stephen Lang in a story about a female astronaut who crash-lands and is offered a smuggling job that will pay for repairs to her ship. The film is part of a new job creation initiative stated back in March this year for the installation of a new nanohub on the campus of SUNY College Of Nanoscale Science And Engineering, to be occupied […]
Former mixed martial arts fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano has had a pretty steady career elevation in the world of action movies with a string of appearances in films such as Blood And Bone (2009), Haywire (2012), Fast And Furious 6 (2013) and her recent solo performance in John Stockwell’s In The Blood with actors Cam Cigandet and Danny Trejo. With a superheroine movie also in the works from comic book creator Rob Liefield’s for Avengelyne, we still have tons to look forward to. But in the meantime, it appears that Carano is preparing to put her focus in a new film with production company, The Film House, set to commense at the end of July for The Opium War, following a press release in March posted by SUNY College Of Nanoscale Science And Engineering. The film is being directed by Justin Steele from a script by Jeremy J. Levy and would […]
