New Featurette For SUPER BODYGUARD Goes Into The Wild

Make no mistake with actor and filmmaker Yue Song. The promise of becoming the next best thing since Bruce Lee sounds like a pretty larger-than-life bite to take, but that IS the case he has been making throughout the promotional campaign of his latest, Super Bodyguard. The film opens in China on July 15 with Song in the role of a young and gifted fighter who goes cityside to reunite with his apprentice after inheriting their late master’s kung fu clan. After randomly being hired as a bodyguard to protect a crime boss’s incorrigible daughter, things take a turn for the worse, and of course as a film like this would have it, we get Song in full form, stomping heads and breaking bones at top speed with the possible prospect of getting the girl at the end of the day, which is all well and good. Extended New SUPER BODYGUARD Trailer Goes Full Contact!

Call the film what you will at this point, but the narrative is mostly clear on actor and filmmaker Yue Song’s latest sophomore outing, Super Bodyguard. Here, Song leads the cast from his own script which sees a young and gifted martial artist forced to adhere to his skillset following his journey to reunite with his fellow apprentice in the wake of their master’s death. Also starring are Collin Chou with Shi Yanneng and Jiang Baocheng, the latter two reuniting three years since their 2013 bout in Law Wing-Cheong’s The Wrath Of Vajra, which feels like pretty hefty casting for someone who has only done two movies. In the months since unveiling at least two trailers for his new genre-blending kung fu hybrid, Super Bodyguard, it’s arguable that star, writer and director Yue Song’s hubris may seem like more than larger-than-life confidence. Captions dubbing the film as the first best martial arts movie in twenty years with neither wires/CGI/(stuntmen?), and a lead signaling the second coming of Bruce Lee would stand out to anyone and you can check it out here to see what I’m talking about. You have to have a lot of confidence about yourself as a filmmaker to stake your claim as the next Bruce Lee. Many would normally frown or, to say the least, lend some capacity of speculation to that matter, but that doesn’t hugely appear to be the case for actor and filmmaker Yue Song whose veracity as the latest in upcoming action stardom is a work that clearly speaks for itself. Thus, when you look at a trailer for a film like his newest, Super Bodyguard, you’re looking at a piece of work that appears to bet everything its got. Song did the same with the 2013 action drama, King Of The Streets and with a distinctive approach to action unmarred by wirework or trick cinematography, presents a pill very much easy to swallow.
