Lionsgate This is me waiting to see if director Susanna Fogel’s new explosive action comedy, The Spy Who Dumped Me, will cue any soundbytes from Pat Benetar’s “Love Is A Battlefield”. Not that I mind good old fashioned musical nostalgia here – or even that this film offers itself as a fitting date movie provided yours is the kind of company that doesn’t mind seeing things blow up and get shot in between lingering thoughts on romantic crises. I also like that Kate McKinnon looks like she’s having a goddamn blast with this one. Set the date for August 3 with the forthcoming release of Susanna Fogel’s new action comedy, The Spy Who Dumped Me. The official trailer arrived in the minutes within The Ellen Show’s segment on Wednesday with lead actresses Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, and with full chemistry equally on display. Audrey (Mila Kunis) and Morgan (Kate McKinnon), two thirty-year-old best friends in Los Angeles, are thrust unexpectedly into an international conspiracy when Audrey’s ex-boyfriend shows up at their apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail. Surprising even themselves, the duo jump into action, on the run throughout Europe from assassins and a suspicious-but-charming British agent, as they hatch a plan to save the world. Justin Theroux, Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Ivanna Sakhno, and Sam Heughan also star. Catch the trailer now!

Lionsgate international will be on hand at Cannes next week with their slate of titles, one of which includes the new action comedy, The Spy Who Dumped Me. Susanna Fogel (Life Partners) makes her sophomore outing in the director’s chair from a script she wrote with David Iserson. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are producing what’s being described as a high-octane, globetrotting spy caper that sees actresses Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis in the respective roles of roomates Morgan and Audrey, the latter whose unassuming ex-boyfriend shows up at their door with assassins on his tail. Dispatching them both, the two women unexpectedly find themselves in possession of a thumb drive and on an international covert mission to save the world.
