Hiroshi Motomiya’s longstanding manga favorite, Salaryman Kintaro, is getting the live-action treatment come January with a two-part adaptation. Actor Nobuyuki Suzuki stars from a script by Shinichi Tanaka, for his own portrayal since the IP launched from the pages of Weekly Young Jump to TBS drama fruition in 1999, marking the first of multiple small screen iterations through 2010. Shimoyama’s Salaryman Kintaro takes off with Suzuki as a former biker gang leader and ex-tuna fisherman, who sheds his wild and reckless lifesfyle and takes the leap into the corporate arena as a salaryman. Part one, opening on January 10, will chronicle Kintaro’s “birth” as the inaugural first of the two releases. The sequel will focus on Kintaro as he tackles Japan’s corporate entities. Muscle Heat and Shinobi: Heart Under Blade director Ten Shimoyama is back with a brand new drift-racing thriller with Alivehoon. The film stars Shuhei Nomura, Ai Yoshikawa and Takanori Jinnai, and is set to open in Japan from June 16 from Aeon Entertainment. A trailer has been making the rounds on several channels and as of this week we now have a short promo with English subs courtesy of international sales brand, Nikkatsu. One of the biggest and most important qualities shared by any action movie is how important the score is, as is the case for the post-production of Kikaider Reboot. And this week, fans are getting a kickass earful of Kiyoshi Yoshikawa‘s amazing score, along with musical director Donald Barrett and his drummers over at Hollywood’s own Captiol Studios. Of course the trick is to watch the video long enough so you won’t miss any footage from the film accompanied by some truly badass percussion work. I used to play drums when I was younger, so this was a gem to come across and share with you folks, and I look forward to seeing how this film performs with its score upon release. Produced by Shinichiro Shinakura, Kikaider Reboot is based on Shotaro Ishinomori’s classic TV Asashi series, and releases in Japan on May 24, 2014. If you missed the first […]
It’s been a little over forty years since TV Asashi launched Shotato Ishinomori’s original Android Kikaider series, with several notable television, film, manga and anime transitions that followed, although a reboot of the original property has been in the works for some time now. This year however, with a script that reportedly took two years to complete, Tokusatsu fans now have something new to gloss over for the next several months with Muscle Heat helmer Ten Shimoyama‘s latest contribution to the genre in the form of Kikaider REBOOT, following a press announement hosted by Toei back in January. Produced by Shinichiro Shinakura and written by Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters scribe Kento Shimoyama, actor Jingi Irie takes center stage as the title character who rebels against the government-sanctioned ARK Project when his slain creator’s rival seizes it for his own evil purposes. Also starring is actress Aimi Satsukawa who plays the very […]
