THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO Review: An Epic And Satisfying Revisit To A Literary Classic

The Count Of Monte Cristo is now playing in theaters across the U.S. from Samuel Goldwyn Films. The last screen adaptation of famed author Alexandre Dumas’s The Count Of Monte Cristo was 2002’s release from director Kevin Reynolds. To say the least, while I enjoyed the film, it always felt like there was more missing to its treatment for such an epic tale to be told. Would it be a stretch to say that the time our dear protagonist Edmond Dantes spent on an island prison equate to the weight of having to wait as long as the rest of us did for something significant and impressive to come along from the film front? I reckon that it depends on your viewpoint and tastes in film, in general. The Count Of Monte Cristo is a Samuel Goldwyn Films release. The film will play for audiences in Los Angeles and New York theaters beginning December 20, and will expanding to more than fifteen markets in the U.S. beginning on January 3. Both William Eubank and Stephen Fung are different directors with at least one other thing in common: Alexandre Dumas. The 19th century literary legend’s classic tale of vengeance, The Count Of Monte Cristo, circled the trades quite a bit in the last decade or so with talks of a remake. Time will tell if this gets any headway, while for now folks curious to see what film duo Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière have been up to are more than welcome to head to theaters when their treatment opens in limited theaters starting next week. Samuel Goldwyn Films acquired the rights to Delaporte and de la Patellière’s The Count Of Monte Cristo back in May, ahead of its premiere at the 77th edition of Cannes. Warner Bros. Taps William Eubank To Helm Modern Take On THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO

The last there was of a big screen adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s classic French swashbuckler, The Count Of Monte Cristo – at least I know of, was in 2002 with Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce from Touchstone. It was pretty terrific in large part, save for the final act which I thought was a bit abrupt, and with a great take on the story that kept me watching. That very story is set in the early 1800’s and so sixteen years since then, we now have news of a new iteration in development now at Warner Bros. according to a report at Deadline. Safehouse Pictures’ own Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold are producing from a script to be written by WGN series Underground creator Joe Polaski that will place the story of Edmond Dantès and Fernand Mondego in a modern-day criminal underworld setting with The Signal helmer William Eubank directing.
