The legendary CGI and Hong Kong Wire-Fu inspired film series The Matrix hardly needs any introduction. However, for the uninitiated, the series so far is a multimedia franchise revolving around the story of a man who comes to be known as Neo. Neo lives in a virtual world controlled by a machine empire, harvesting raw energy from human bodies in massive fields of pods. Neo has the unexplainable ability to manipulate the Matrix around him in ways that make him into a sort of superhuman, finally meeting his story’s end by defeating a rogue AI that threatened both humanity and the machines. We were to believe that this was the end of Neo. But as always with the Matrix, nothing is what it seems, and the latest trailer for The Matrix Resurrections very quickly reminds us of this fact. Picking up after an unknown amount of time passes from Neo’s “Death”, we […]
Dolby Laboratories, Inc., Warner Bros., and AMC Theatres are staking in their efforts toward a one-week re-release of the Wachowskis’ supersized sci-fi action hit, The Matrix. Starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving, the film will open in more than 135 Dolby Cinema at AMC locations across the U.S. on August 30. Originally released on March 31, 1999, The Matrix was an innovative game changer for its stunning visuals (i.e. “bullet time” a la Blade), transformative storytelling, and award-winning action Yuen Woo-Ping’s applications of martial arts and high-flying action building on the successes of kung fu hits such as Iron Monkey and Fist Of Legend. Pre-production saw the cast committ to extensive literary research in order to understand the depth and overall meaning and vision of the story. Reeves, already a household name following hits like Speed and Point Break, plays Thomas Anderson, a low-key computer […]
A new LA Times interview with Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara is putting The Matrix franchise back in the spotlight. The Wachowskis’ – Lana and Lily (then Larry and Andy at the time of the films’ popularity), directed the trilogy from 1999 through 2003, spawning the franchise from a multitude of mediums and influences drawing from religion, philosophy, pop culture, anime sci-fi and kung fu. Tsujihara gave the franchise a mention amid answering questions on what other franchises he would like to see rebooted – this, after a lengthy discussion on life at at Warner Bros. following AT&T’s purchase of TimeWarner Inc. (now branded WarnerMedia) for $85.4 billion dollars last year, and adapting to the evolving atmosphere in the world of entertainment. “We have incredible franchises on the features side such as ‘The Matrix.’”, he said. “We’d love to work with George Miller on furthering the ‘Mad Max’ franchise. It’s been fourteen years since The Matrix trilogy last left moviegoing fans with a groundbreaking, epic cyberpunk sci-fi action saga that broke the mold in more ways than several. Earning more than $1.6 billion dollars globally between all three films and rounded out with a series of spin-off shortfilms, cut scenes and animated properties, the franchise has been long rumored for a remake or a continuation in some capacity. Even fake trailers over the years had people convinced, but now we have reporting from THR that details the specifics of recent efforts to reboot the franchise at Warner Bros. with the studio possibly eyeing actor Michael B. Jordan for a role. The report also cites that Zak Penn, who bares story and screenwriting credits on many a Marvel comic book film as well as films like Behind Enemy Lines and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One adaptation, is being circled to […]
The Wachowski sibs, Lana and Andy, re-energized their fanbase this month with headlines pertaining to a possible script handed in to Warner Bros. for a potential treatment of a new trilogy following their previous success launched with the 1999 film, The Matrix. Since this report, it may come as a coincidence that we now have a new fan film in the midst from independent filmmaker, writer, producer and VFX supervisor Felix Joleanes in the form of Trickster, featuring actress Brigitte Hernández in a solo performance as the sole survivor of a crashed ship, armed with only one weapon against the sentinels lurking about as she treks through the ruins of the real world. Shot last year in Bogotá, Colombia, the new shortfilm also appears to bare a few characteristics that tie into the second or third film of the original trilogy, and if you have seen those first three films, […]
