The Movies That Moved Me: Mark DiSalle’s THE PERFECT WEAPON

Action heroes don’t always need to be binary. Some can come with the greyest of shadings to add a little nuance and intrigue to any story, and there’s no doubt there are plenty of those in the history of cinema. More prevalently, as is the case with the action genre, it’s always fascinating to see how anti-heroic protagonists redeem themselves. It’s not unfamiliar territory either, which makes it all the more challenging to see how directors manage to craft their films around such characters. Doug Liman’s Road House is a timely example of this as the term elucidated in the headline takes its cues from an introductory scene where Daniela Melchior’s character approaches that of our lead, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, after he escorts a group of thugs he just dismantled to the hospital. As the story reveals, Gyllenhaal’s role, per the titular film’s remake basis on the 1989 hit […]
Director Matthias Titus Paar’s latest, The Perfect Weapon, still awaits a release date, but a new trailer is now online and making the rounds. Obviously the selling point here is action star Steven Seagal whose last few stints have been a bit of a bust, though here he plays villain opposite to actor Johnny Messner who leads the film in a pretty badass role that should get some attention from the niche this one is aimed for. SYNOPSIS: In a not too distant future, a totalitarian state secret government organization run by the Director (Steven Seagal) controls all aspects of life. All enemies of the state are dealt with in the harshest way possible and executed by a secret organization’s operatives and assassins. The best operative, code-named Condor (Johnny Messner), is an elite agent and hit man for the corrupt government. But in his latest assignment he fails to eliminate […]
Director Matthias Titus Paar is accomodating action fans with another new stint featuring actor Johnny Messner in upcoming futuristic action thriller, The Perfect Weapon. Straight and to the point here (and obviously there’s no need to point out the differece between this one and Mark DiSalle’s 1991 film which should be obvious), clearly Messner shows out some great chops for this latest diddy from VMI Worldwide, so I would advise looking into this one simply for the fact that he’s the star. Casting Seagal here was a pretty good move to make this one noticeable to Seagal fans and some action fans, but here it’s obvious he’s co-starring. Alas, and much like Force Of Execution in 2013 in which I’ll share my thoughts in an upcoming Now Available review, I have to give credit where credit is due here. Sure, Seagal is busy and keeping things moving for his own […]
